Re: Zorba's new tatt...
Wow, it's pretty AND bad-ass. This will look great with tribal or cabaret!
How badly did it hurt? ..g.:

It's just beautiful!
Further tattoo inspiration for the day -- my nephew who works in a seniors home said that one of the residents celebrated her 88th birthday by getting a tattoo. Gotta love it!

Re: Zorba's new tatt...
Yea, I was looking for "something pretty enough for Cabaret, something edgy enough for Tribal". I think I got it!
How bad did it hurt? All the advice I received on Bhuz, as well as IRL, was spot on. It hurt - it hurt bad. Buuuut - the pain was manageable. Sentences like "Ride the pain", "Relax into the pain" don't mean a darn thing UNTIL you're in the chair. Then they suddenly make sense, and they work.
I'd advise it for anyone!

Re: Zorba's new tatt...
One of my troupemates just got a new tat between her shoulders. When it got to the itchy stage she'd go ask someone to whack her a few times -- she got turned down by the first people, who didn't know it was for tattoo relief, with some funny looks!
Looks beautiful Zorba! Enjoy it for years to come!

That is beautiful, Zorba.
You know, you waited till the right time to get one. Those finely detailed tattoos that are all the rage now (ie like this one) just weren't possible back in the day, I don't think. Certainly all my friends with older ink have much darker, heavier tattoos.

Re: Zorba's new tatt...
Definitely Tribal, and Cabaret!!!
GORGEOUS! I LOVE IT!
It also looks Gothic to me!
If I were to get one, I'd pick yours!
Did you design it?
I'd have thought it took longer than 3 1/2 hours!
Happy 50th (when it comes up)!

Re: Zorba's new tatt...
Yea, it also appeals to my inner Goth!
I did not design it - I don't have that talent. I found something vaguely similar on the net several years ago called - believe it or not - "Gothic black rose" with 2 roses. It was almost square in size. I did a fast photoshop hack job on it, first squeezing it down, then adding a third rose. This was the artists input.
I then gave both the original, and my hack job to the artist. I told her the aesthetic I was looking for, including the "Pretty enough for Cabaret, edgy enough for Tribal" idea. Being that she is a Flamenco Dancer and an ex-Belly Dancer who has tatted MANY of the local Belly Dancers, she understood. Then, like I always do with an artist after I give her/him the germ of an idea, I got the 'ell out of her way!
Only 3 breaks, the first about 30 minutes in, when I got dizzy and a bit shocky. That took about 5 minutes. After that, I only took 2 other breaks, each one about 2 minutes max. I didn't want to lose the endorphin high/rush and have to "start over" again. So there was less than 10 minutes of un-productive time in that 3-1/2 hours - and she's the best artist in town, doing it for 20+ years.I'd have thought it took longer than 3 1/2 hours!
She told me I did "pretty good" for a first timer! I'm content.

Dayum!
Awesome collaberation!
It should be copyrighted!
I've seen artists draw on paper that took longer than your tattoo, with less depth (and the paper didn't move or breathe)!
You did pretty good for a first timer, and she did an awesome job!

Re: Zorba's new tatt...
Beautiful! The shading is very well done. Not all artists can do subtle, realistic shading. I have a tattoo in the same spot that took about 2 hours. The pain sort of turned off after about 20 minutes, though, when the endorphins kicked in. Whee, endorphins!
Now I'm really eager to get my next tattoo! I'm planning a stylized pomegranate tree for my upper back! I just need to either get someone to draw it, or ask permission of an artist to use an existing picture.

Zorba that is gorgeous! Your artist really had some nice art on her page - and yours is beautiful, love the shading on the rose petals. Glad you got through the pain. Now you can start planning the next one -lol! They are addictive! >.<

Very classy! BTW - How did it go? Was the pain level manageable, better or worse than expected? Did you try to meditate, and did it work? I've gotten invested in this outcome after all of that discussion leading up to this -
