Inspired by Zorba: Let's See Your Tats Bhuzzers!
Let's share pictures of our awesome tattoos!
I'd also like to hear any of your experiences, both negative and positive, with clients, the public, and other dancers and how they react to your tattoo(s). I've already got one... will post a photo soon, but I'm considering getting a REALLY BIG tat when I reach my weight loss goals and am wondering how the GP and other dancers will react to it... not like that will sway my decision much... just wondering what to expect.Last edited by Lesedi; 07-10-2010 at 04:55 PM.

Re: Inspired by Zorba: Let's See Your Tats Ladies and Gents!
I have two tattoos. But I have been tattooed three times.
#1 is a 2" wide black bat on my hip. It's tiny and not really worth photographing. It looks similar to the batman logo, but isn't the batman logo. LOL. I am obsessed with vampires and a bat just made sense.
I had the bat done as a sort of test. I have hypersensitive skin, eczema, and some occasional healing issues due to medication that I took in my teens. As much as I wanted a tattoo, I was concerned that I would scar badly. I had the little black bat done on my hip in a spot where my underwear covers it entirely. That way, if it healed poorly it would not be out for everyone to see. Thankfully, it healed fine and didn't hurt at all. I had plenty of cushion in the area and that dulled the pain. It felt like being drawn on with a pencil. Annoying but not painful.
My second tattoo has gone through two iterations. It started off as a flower growing around a crescent moon, based off my own artwork. Moon is my maiden name.
The first sitting for this tattoo was 3 hours long, and the artist used an overabundance of numbing spray. I think he thought that since I was a girl I was going to squirm and cry without it. Unfortunately the spray over-saturated my skin so that the ink did not take well. The tattoo came out patchy and faded very quickly.
Brand new..........................................2 years+

When I started belly dancing, I felt that my tattoo needed an update. My faded moon looked pitiful alongside my new costumes, and I was somewhat embarrassed that so many people would be seeing it. So I had it redone.

This time, my artist (Eric Booth of Crucial Tattoo in Salisbury, Maryland) was much more experienced and knowledgeable about the products he was using. In particular, he used a different type of tattoo machine than the usual electric powered gun. He uses a gun where the needle is moved by air from a compressor, and the effect is that the needles move much more smoothly across the skin. This allows for more precise line work, and has the added benefit of being less painful. Of course, it was still more painful than the first time I had this tattoo done because there was no numbing agent used.
I think the next thing I'll be getting done is my eyebrows, since my eyes are getting bad and making it hard to draw my brows on every morning.Last edited by lunascura; 05-19-2010 at 08:41 PM. Reason: typo

Awww thanks everyone. Eric does phenomenal work. He made my tattoo look like it belonged and now I'm proud to show it off :)
I have gotten a lot of positive comments from audience members. So far, I haven't had a single negative reaction to a tattooed belly dancer. I did have one elderly woman ask if it was painted on!

I'm going to have to do this in two posts!
My favorite tattoo is my right arm. Here's one angle of it:

And another (more towards the front of the arm):

And finally the inside of the arm (it goes all the way around):

Re: Inspired by Zorba: Let's See Your Tats Ladies and Gents!
I have about 16 tattoos...so it'd be impossible to post em all here...but here's a few...

Everyone's ink looks awesome...
I have never had a negative from clients regarding my ink...most is hidden by my costume...the rest look pretty much like fun shaped birthmarks I guess...
I have an Aladdin's lamp on my low hip which can't be seen, but the smoke rising from it looks like black henna on my hip...Last edited by Gia al Qamar; 05-20-2010 at 05:32 PM.

Like the others have mentioned, I usually get positive comments if I get any at all, which is a good thing, because I have a few more in mind!

I know I'm a re-poster but here's my first and only. I love it so much I'll probably get another. It's pretty big, covers my lower back. Only one restaurant customer has ever asked for it's meaning, and I wish I'd been better prepared with an answer that was informative but not too personal.
