    Yes: hooks.
(posts sometimes come out when I spin, don't trust clips)

Nope! My ears aren't even pierced! Mostly because I saw a girl get hers caught in a tennis racket once... ripped right through her lobe.

i do and huge ones! never clip ons though, to make them tight enough not to fall off i get a strange headache, must be a pressure point. I prefer hooks with a plastic thing on the back to keep them from flying off though I have had it happen more than once

Re: Survey: Do you wear earrings when you perform?

When I was able to wear earrings, yes!

I preferred posts, with the wide disk backing, or the posts that you have to screw the backing on (this style is rare).

    :soapbox:
Just the other day, I was watching a local commercial (I don't remember what she was selling); anyway the lady was dressed professionally, but didn't have ONE piece of jewelry on.
I told my S/O, she could have at LEAST put on earrings!
It looks as if she was running late, and didn't have time to 'complete' her look!

PS, Just in case you are asking because someone might not be able to wear earrings, I've seen beading done on head bands, that gave the illusion of earrings.

Yes! I feel naked without earrings. Prefer posts & with the disk backers to give some support.

    Alway!

Style depends on the style of dance: with folkloric dance I prefer Egyptian jewelry like those huge moon shape earings.

And for sharky, chandelier earings are my fave.

Re: Survey: Do you wear earrings when you perform?

always. I prefer posts with disk back for small to medium earrings, hooks for the bigger once. I don't use backers for the hooks, as I'm hoping to avoid any lobe ripping by being able to easily remove the hooks in case it gets stuck on something.

I have a couple of clip ons, but can't wear them for longer then 30 minutes. Feels like they're cutting off circulation big time!

Yes, BIG ones! Favorite is leverback hooks though I will wear whatever kind of pierced backing. Sometimes I wear a combination two pairs, a long dangler on a hook, plus a big blingy post, on the same ear, with both the post and the hook through the same hole.

Re: Survey: Do you wear earrings when you perform?

    Well, DUH.

I wear four, no, five earrings all the time anyway - I don't take my silver oval/squoval hoops out except to clean them. Sometimes I just leave them as is but usually for a performance I'll replace the front two with something that goes with the costume.

I always wear hoops or hooks, I hate posts/studs.

Always. They're the quickest way to dress up an outfit, and it's much easier for me to find earrings to match an outfit than to find necklaces or cuffs.

I favour hooks with the end bent out at right angles to avoid them slipping out. I find posts don't work so well with heavy earrings- the weight distribution makes them pull on my lobes.

Always wear earrings. For performance, usually the ones what go with my necklace. I wear a lot of sets from India.

Always. Mostly hooks, because I like hook earrings, but also some with posts, and even some clip-ons that I had left over from before I had my ears pierced.

Re: Survey: Do you wear earrings when you perform?

I don't have pierced ears, so I wear clip ons with dangling hoops or chandeliers. I don't throw my head/hair around when I dance or do long spinning sequences, so losing the clips hasn't been a problem for me. I prefer screwbacks, but they're nearly impossible to find outside of vintage jewelry.

Re: Survey: Do you wear earrings when you perform?

I literally JUST got my ears pierced last year. I have no idea how I went out for gigs without my danglies!

I tend to prefer the hooks, because I've had posts fall off. I also tend to wear bigger, heavier earrings for photo shoots and go for something a bit more lightweight (but just as shiny!) for shows. I do lots of head tosses and hair play, so I guess I'm paranoid about ripping my earlobe open mid-show, or something equally catastrophic .w.:

Nope, my ears aren't pierced and I can't stand the feeling. I do have some clip ons when I need them, but prefer to distract with other bling.

I wear them all the time. Not worried about hooks or posts, but I spend a ton of time "weighing" different earings before I buy a pair. I find heavy earings impossible to deal with, especially while spotting! So I have to find the best balance between weight and blingy :)

Re: Survey: Do you wear earrings when you perform?

ALWAYS! The bigger the better (although not too heavy)! I usually wear hooks or posts b/c I don't trust clips.

In fact, I had some students I taught a short 8 week class go out and buy "big" earrings to wear to the end of session party so they could "be like me." lol *sigh* horrible addiction

So... thinking of adding some to the sparkly store?

Re: Survey: Do you wear earrings when you perform?

I love vintage rhinestone jewelry. Many of the earrings come in clips- and only once have I lost one. Twice I've lost pierced (post) earrings.
Because of the squeeze factor, I wear them for the show and take them off right afterward.
My hair "eats" earrings. I can't wear long dangly ones for performing.

Re: Survey: Do you wear earrings when you perform?

    Doesn't everyone? ..l;,

My workmates call me the "earring king" - I have so many earrings (over 100 pairs) that I have to use a database program to keep track of them all!

I had my ears pierced 10 years ago for my 40th - and had the lobes pierced a bit higher than is usual so I could handle heavy earrings - some of mine are VERY heavy...

I prefer post (dangle) earrings. Here's why: Any kind of wire (like French hooks) puts the swivel load on your piercing - the wire turns inside the hole as the earrings move. I prefer not to have my holes worked this way - a post mount puts the swivel load on the earring itself. With this said, I do have plenty of French hooks and other wires as many earrings are made this way. I put clutch backs onto my French hooks - I haven't lost a French hook earrings since I started doing this.

The "Comfort backs" with the plastic disk are a great idea as they distribute the load over a wider area. However, I cannot use them on most of my earrings because my lobe is just a little bit too thick for them to work with most earrings unless they have a longer than usual post. Thus I use the standard clutch backs which have the advantage of being easy to tighten them up with a squeeze.

I've also found that the earrings I've purchased in Europe have slightly thicker posts than American ones. I don't know if that's a universal rule, but the thicker posts are a bit easier on the ear for load distribution reasons.

I only have 3 pairs of hoops - all of them large. One pair has SQUARE wires that go through the earlobe! What idiot came up with THAT idea?

    Clip ons are for masochists...

    How's that for a guy analysis? ..l;,

Always, I keep my regular smaller hoops in all the time and change out the front piercings for shows with big dangling hooks. All my jewellery has to be nickle-free otherwise it's not a pretty sight. I usually tend to long hooks with the big disk backings in all plastic when I can find them.

Always. Size, colour & style always depends on the costume of course. I prefer hooks but if the earrings that match have posts then I'm not proud.

Honestly...I'm probably breaking belly dancer code here...I just wear my every day diamond studs. They're sparkly, they don't pull on my ears. I've also got extremely long and thick hair, so my ears aren't really extremely visible.

Re: Survey: Do you wear earrings when you perform?

It just occurred to me that I have a couple of pictures of my BD jewelry. For performances, I wear BIG earrings/necklaces. This is a multicolor set with disk backs on the earrings:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...rjewelry02.jpg

It's a heavy set, but thanks to the disks I can wear this for hours. For veil dancing I careful to use earring that won't get caught on my veil. Had to learn that the hard way! Like studs with a big aurora borealis stone. I also have long hair, that's why I need big earrings to keep them visible.

Yes, I always wear earrings! I have a bit of an earring obsession, I just love earrings. I have 3 holes, all in a row, in each ear so I wear big dangly crystal ones in the first set and small studs in a coordinating color in the second two.
