Of short waists & seat belts
I'm positively dying to order this costume as a custom, but I'm really short-waisted & scared it'll have 'seatbelt' effect and just make me look even short-waisted. Any thoughts or suggestions? Order it to wear a bit low? See if it can be made without the top strap?

LOVE that costume!
I'd have them make it without the top strap. It would still look great with the cutouts, but waist straps are really not for everyone.
Or maybe they can make the waist strap detachable like it was on one of my Tony & Robbies!

Just one waist strap may be okay or a more narrow waist strap may look better.
I second Carrara about a detachable waist strap.

Re: Of short waists & seat belts
i own that one!! hehe i just got it from dahab last week, had a photoshoot yesterday so pics will be up this week. i dont particularly have a short waist tho but i would say that getting it made just to have that one cut out would look great still. what i like about this one is that u can wear it either way, high or low for the upper waist strap. and the style on this one is very flattering, i can't wear the regular waist straps u normally see. this one is angled to make it look very flattering

Re: Of short waists & seat belts

One less waist strap and wear it lower. And definitely get this cuz it's hot.

Re: Of short waists & seat belts
wondered about this & was going to ask them if there are pics of the back - couldnt tell if the top strap goes around the waist alone or if it comes up along the hip then dips back down to join the back of the belt.
if it's worn lower I might could do that, but i've recently had the revelation i need to wear belts pretty (dangerously?) low to look good/"right" on me.
eta: fotia, it is hot, isnt it? ..g.:Last edited by TexasRuya; 05-31-2010 at 06:48 PM.

Keep both, see if they can be made thinner, wear it super low, as low as you can go, and have the hip straps dramatically angle v-shape downward.
One of my clients is very short-waisted and she had a costume in this manner. It actually looked really smashing on her b/c the V's + wearing the top of the skirt low elongated her torso.

Re: Of short waists & seat belts
yah i agree with azhia, i think the v-style elongates the torso anyway. and its worn low so it's a double whammy :) i dont have any pics of the back on me but its a stunning costume and aside form that, its an awesome quality. i just suggest wearing another skirt or harem pants (somehow, haven't quite figured out how to wear harem pants underneath all the slits yet) because the skirt is a bit sheer. nothing shocking though, she adds another layer or two in the front so its not that sheer there :)
and if u get it the way its shown there, u can totally just wear the top layer pushed down. or u can probably ask to make it detachable, that'd be cool too, for variety :)
what color are u thinking of getting? mine is a bright orange with turquoise accents :)
oh and this costume makes ur butt look GREAT. something about those straps..idk what it is, it's costume magic lol

I hope you get it! I think it is lovely and I will be very interested to see how it looks on a fellow short waisted individual!
The other thing that has helped me, in addition to wearing my belts a bit lower is to really hoist my boobs up. I can get an extra inch or so of torso that way.

Re: Of short waists & seat belts
One less strap is a great idea. I am short waisted also - this style looks great on me when I'm standing still, but creates a "love-handle" effect when doing vertical figure 8's or "mayas" because it cuts into my waist. Eliminating the top waist strap sounds like a great solution, and keeps the "V" shape that elongates the torso (a big plus for us short-waisted gals).

Detachable strap sounds like a good idea. Think I'll ask about that, thanks!

Re: Of short waists & seat belts
I have a pharaonics tempest which is the same belt design. I was going to take the top strap off, because I am also short waisted, but as I've been loosing weight, I've been able to wear the belt lower, so now it looks great with all of the straps. I would just order it bigger to wear lower on the hips.

I'm thinking green + pink accents, or, green + purple accents. Strong colors look best against my pale skin, but I would like to keep it girly/princessy.
Are there crystals on this set? I drooled over a blingy Pharonics at ABDC Sunday but held off until I could determine crystal content on this Dahab.
Crimson, it's Dahab Designs, they're in Retail Swap Meet.

it does have rhinestones and other stones (not sure what u'd call those..acrylic? no idea!) but compared to pharaonics it doesnt have those blingy crystals amira uses. but the beading on this is amazing nonetheless

You look gorgeous! That color combination is great. I also like the way that the top strap attaches on the belt. Very pretty.
