Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
I call this the Magical Mystery Costume because it's such a funny shade of pink and I really don't know what to do with it ..l;,
Got this bedlah at a great price on Bhuz. It's the cutest color and such a flattering shape, so I'm definitely keeping it. Something about it seems just a touch too plain for my high-end tastes, though, and right now I'm attempting to bring it up to speed.
I already have a ginormous bag of clear and AB crystals of various shapes (thanks, Sabrina!) - round, oval, triangles, and some giant cushion cut stones. But even when I lay out the crystals, it seems like something else might be missing.
It doesn't help that the costume's a crazy bright flamingo/near-coral pink and they don't really make Swarovskis or appliques in a compatible pink color way.
If this cute little bedlah landed on your doorstep with a sign that says "bling me!" how would you decorate it? Feathers? Flowers? Chunky beading on the sequinned part? Simple AB crystals?
Have a gander:

Hey Satin, what if you "outline" the swirl pattern with a darker shade of orange bugles or maybe even sew silver holographic sequins over the swirls to make it stand out...

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
I'm soooooooooooooo sewing challenged! That might not exactly be within my realm of capabilities just yet. LOL. But that would be gorgeous - even white pearls along the swirls might be cute for contrast, since it's a very girly set.
But I agree. Those swirls need depth.

Maybe put rhinestone chain around the swirls and add some straight beaded fringe with big swarovski bicones on the ends in between the swags on the belt.

OMG, LOVE this!
In fact, I'm having a discussion on my FB right now about rhinestone chain. Is there such a thing as rhinestone chain that doesn't get stuck to your veils? I love the look, but I'm trying to find some that's a little less grabby than whatever Eman and Joharah use ..c::

I haven't tried this, but here is some rhinestone banding in a plastic setting without prongs. I buy alot of stuff from Dreamtime and have always been happy with it.

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
I get my rhinestone chain from this seller: Rhinestone Chain Warehouse items - Get great deals on SS18 BRASS 4.5 mm items on eBay Stores!
They're really nice quality. However a trick not to get them to snag is to paint over them with clear nail polish. It takes a little bit of the sheen off, but not enough to make a difference (plus they won't scratch as badly). I go through the new costumes with some pliers and a bottle of clear nail polish and I inspect each stone. I close prongs that need it and then paint the nail polish over them. It creates a seal between the stone and metal. It works like a charm!

Yeah, I was just looking at that last night! I've been happy with everything from DreamTime Creations so far. Wonder if anyone here has used that stuff...

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
I think outlining the swirl is your easiest bet to add dimension. Sewing down bugle beads isn't hard, you just want to do it so that the bugle bead isn't pulled tight across the edges of the bugle bead. I love the pearls idea, too... I have a few single rhinestones that have the parts you sew entirely under the rhinestone, so I think those would catch less than a chain. Can't wait to see what you do!

Andalee, thanks for the tip! Great prices...and yeah, maybe I should try the clear nail polish trick. I really do like the look of rhinestone chain...

Qamar, that's exactly what I had in mind. I want to look like a fancy strawberry frosted cupcake when I wear this ..l;,
Hmm. On that note, maybe I should take a trip to Crumbs (our local designer cupcake bakery) for, umm, "artistic inspiration" ..g.:

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
are you opposed to adding flowers? maybe for some nice contrast so you can pair it with different skirts, small flowers in a green or light blue color? with matching fringe underneath?

Noooooooo, I'm totally pro-flowers! In fact, that's one of the first things I thought of when I saw this set.
I really kinda dig these little peach sequin flowers:

If that doesn't scream cupcake, I don't know what does!!! ..l;,

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
Yeah, I kinda want to keep it extra girly (in staying with the "Foo Foo Fluff Bunny" theme, of course!), so I wanna do all the decorations in pink and crystal/AB/white. Green would be really cute, but then I'd have to worry about integrating that color into the fringe and swirls, which just might make my head explode ..l;,

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
How about nestling AB or "Irid. Fire/Flame(?)"-colored round Swarovski crystals at the curlique-ends of each swirl?

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
Not QUITE orange-y enough for the Fire Opal crystals (I actually have some at home and held them up to the bedlah), but I do agree that something cute should go in the curlicues.
I have little silver "margarita" (daisy-shaped) Swarovskis that might look nice there. Now we're talkin'!

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
My first thought was to use clear stones, not AB. I love AB, but it doesn't seem like the perfect match here. I would try to generously sew single, fairly small flower-shaped crystals all over the costume.

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
I think it's great as is, but if you have a bunch of AB crystals, what about putting one in the center of each curlicue and maybe along the top point of each scallop where the fringe is attached to the belt.

Re: Help Me Bling Out My Pink Bedlah!
I'd add a row of bugle beads or rhinestone chain above the line of the fringe. Then I'd place round ab's inside the swirls. I think you could also play with color... maybe add some coral reds and turquoises to it here and there.

I was definitely thinking of adding some rhinestone chain above the line of fringe. Great minds think alike! ..g.:
Still torn on those swirlies...do I do bugles, pearls or rhinestone chain?
I'm gonna stop staring at that cupcake porn now. Thanks, Qamar! We could definitely eat and shop our way through Montreal - I LOVE it there!
