brazilian designers?
i know there are several great ones but i cannot for the life of me remember the name of this one woman whose costumes i saw on bhuz a year or two ago...i think her first name started with an E? but that could have been the bhuzzer's name for all i remember... maybe the brilliant minds of bhuz can come together and we can list them here :)
tony & robbie
cristiano ferreira
Cristtiano Ferreira - Belly Dance Costumes
(they have more listed on FB)
simone galassi
O maior Atelier de Roupas para Dança do Ventre
(also on FB)
juliana marconato
www.julianamarconato.com.br
who else??
the good thing about having my bf in brazil this summer is that i can avoid the shipping hassle and fees by having him bring him back a costume :)
i would also love to hear from those that have ordered from any of the above on how long it took to get a custom :)Last edited by ZanaRaqs; 06-03-2010 at 01:06 PM.

Aw, man, I love Tony & Robbies but they're impossible to come by if you don't speak Portuguese! And I love Christiannos, too.
Kalinka is one Brazilian Bhuzzer who always posts nice stuff on the Swap Meet. I'm sure she can chime in to let us know more about the movers and shakers in Brazil!

Re: brazilian designers?
yes, ferreira intrigues me as well. i love the way the bras look..comfy yet still covered in bling. i think they're on the higher end of the price range tho but not sure, i guess it all depends on what u're getting. i know simone galassi has some on her site that are still nice and blinged out in the $300-$450 range, same goes for when u get a custom from juliana marconato

Re: brazilian designers?
Are the prices on her website in dollars or reais? I though they were in reais so I converted and they seem very reasonable. I wonder how her bras are for the larger chested.

Re: brazilian designers?
the ones for cristiano are in reais, so when u convert they are reasonable. but when i asked through FB about a particular design i got a $650 USD price quote for a costume that wasn't even as blinged out as the ones on the website, which is over my personal budget

Re: brazilian designers?
Does it have to be custom made?
One piece of advice I'd give you considering the limited amount of time your bf is staying there is to buy a costume that is already made. From my experience everything in Brazil takes much longer than what you'd expect, and less than 2 months is too little for most designers regardless.
If you are considering this option, let me know where he's staying and I'll see if I can find any ateliers nearby.

Re: brazilian designers?
lol "everything in brazil takes much longer" haha i saw this when i went there for the first time this past dec-january LOL
he's up north in Paraiba (campina grande to be exact) and trust me, there is no dance life other than forro there (especially now with the Sao Joao festival)..and a strange surge of pole dancing classes everywhere but that's neither here nor there lol i contacted simone galassi through fb to see what the measurements on some of the costumes are but no response yet..the person that answered me answered back in english (i asked in portuguese..) so im not sure if they understood me..? i wrote in both portuguese and english just in case tho..
i'm always worried about the skirts though because im tall and 'thicker' so i need a way longer length.. :-/

Re: brazilian designers?
He'll only be staying there? If so, how would he get a costume, custom-made or not? I'm assuming he'd be picking up the costume in person wherever you order it from (because trust me, it won't ship in time).
And word to the wise: when possible, call instead of e-mailing. Brazilians take forever to answer e-mails if they even reply at all. Maybe your bf can call for you, since he's there?

Re: brazilian designers?
no i'd have it shipped there and he just brings it over but if shipping would take forever within brazil, nevertheless out of the country, then i guess nvm. even if i bought one 'off the rack', it wouldn't get to him up north by the time he leaves july 20th??
he can call for me but i'm worried he'd screw up somehow lol not sure if i trust him yet to know what is a good price on a costume or something along those lines...

Re: brazilian designers?
If you get one off the rack it can arrive on time. But you have to discuss that with the atelier and make it very clear to them that you need it to be mailed out ASAP, that it needs to arrive by _______ (I would tell them July 10th or so, just in case). From Sao Paulo (where most belly dance designers are located) to Paraiba, your costume has a looooong way to go, unless you can find a designer in the Northeast, which is possible but I don't know of any good ones off the top of my head. If you want the good stuff, Sao Paulo is the place to look.

Re: brazilian designers?
yah i dont have much hope for the northeast region when it comes to costume shops :( im still waiting on galassi's assistant to let me know the measurements of the costumes i inquired about..it'd be nice to try something different. shipping to the US is costly but i would love to get a cristiano ferreira costume or a juliana marconato one day
i still can't remember the name of the other designer though...gah, driving me insane now lol

Re: brazilian designers?
Not any more..g.:
I have been shopping from Suzanne Hilse at Bellydance Dreams for a while;
she speaks good english and is 100% reliable.
She´s the only distributor in Germany of Tony&Robbie costumes and has some in stock:
Bellydance Dreams
She has been very helpful about custom orders.
