Thread: Dance stockings?

This is random, but maybe someone here knows. (the vintage dance boots thread prompted me to post it)

While I was at Young Frankenstein, I noticed that the chorus dancers were wearing thigh high stockings (with garter belts, if I remember right). Nice ones with sparkles in them!

Now, I've worn stockings just enough to know that I can't cross the room without them falling down or getting a run!!!!

Are there some special kind of dance thigh highs, extra stretchy and durable? With sparkles? If so, I want them!!! (not for bellydance, I promise. For offstage fun and dressing up.)

if they were dancing actively, its likely the thigh highs were sewn onto a flesh colored full stocking. and the garters tacked to the tights/stockings. we used this trick in jazz productions. another great trick is to cut the legs off professional grade fishnets and clip them into garters for better staying power.

going to agree with Sabrina on this one. I am actually putting together an outfit to go Goth clubbing with a few of my friends later this summer and it includes heavier thigh highs stitched EXACTLY as mentioned.

For real life stockings, I highly recommend Victoria's secrets. Many times they are a little heavier and have a touch of lycra in them which seems to help them to last a little longer.

For fun and funky stockings, Leg Avenue has a nice selection.

Also, get a good garter belt which doesn't have a lot of stretch in it.

(I stopped wearing panty hose in uni. I was living in tights because of ballet and jazz classes and developed all kinds of female issues. Dr. suggested garter belt, stockings and french knickers. Have only rarely gone back to standard panty hose. Love them and I always feel so much more girly!)
