Re: Stars & Rouching
Jasmine has a beautiful ice blue star-covered set for sale:

I can't fit it or afford it, but it's certainly inspirational.

Wow, that Hoda is gorgeous! I love the use of colour.
I think Eshta has some really innovative ruching on some of her costumes in her sale thread, and the dancer who is making the 'Princess Jasmine' outfit that is on the board somewhere has done really beautiful ruching along the bottom of the bra cups.

Re: Stars & Rouching
A couple of years back I posted a thread asking about how to do ruching and got some really helpful responses, here is a link:
http://www.bhuz.com/forum/belly-danc...ching-bra.html
I ended up using the sew a straight line and pull the thread method Tahira suggested and it worked perfectly. Here is the costume I made (I hadn't added fringe to the belt yet when this pic was taken).

Re: Stars & Rouching
I have also made a star costume. It was the first costume I ever made and I love it! I don't have any pics uploaded at the moment, but I can describe how I did the stars. The Hoda costume pictured above has star shaped appliques which is an effective method, I used a different approach and beaded the stars right onto the costume. I had some of those glow in the dark stars that you stick to your wall hanging around and they were the same size I wanted the stars on the costume to be so I traced one onto a piece of light weight interfacing to use as a pattern. Then I pinned the interfacing on the costume and beaded around the edges, removing the interfacing when I was finished. It worked great and came out beautifully.
