Sweat, bodystockings and DIY fishnet bodystocking tutorial link from Lauren!
So I'm a sweaty girl, especially in costume, even before I start dancing I'm sweating, regardless if it's hot or cold, I'm sweating. Usually, it's just a light mist of sweat, most people don't even notice, but I've recently started to wear bodystockings which really show the sweat. I don't mind the appearance of sweat while dancing, it means I'm working, but I don't love appearing in front of an audience with dark sweat spots already in place! I thought about wearing baby powder, but I have darker skin, and I feel like I would just wind up with a layer of white mud between me and my stocking. Also, I will not give up my stockings, it's not an option. Anybody else with this issue? What do you do?

Re: Sweat and bodystockings, gotta fix?
Probably sounds strange but this is my solution. I generously roll a deodorant stone over my midriff. I purchase deodorant stones in most drug stores. (No residue with deodorant stones.)

Re: Sweat and bodystockings, gotta fix?
I've never used a deodorant stone, I was always under the impression that they acted like a deodorant, rather than an antiperspirant. The stop perspiration as well?

I try to avoid chemicals so a deodorant stone is my best option. I find the amazingly effective. They cost $4-5 but usually last 1.5-2 years. Results may vary. They are odor free and do not leave a residue. As far as moisture they work for me.

I'll give it a shot, I'm dancing tomorrow, so I will try to pick one up in the morning, and trial by fire (er, sweat) tomorrow nite! Thanks!
If there are any more suggestions out there, bring'em on, the more the merrier!

Would it help to wear fishnet bodystockings?

Re: Sweat and bodystockings, gotta fix?
I do actually often times use the after shower body powder. I have a wash cloth that I sprinkle it on, and the kinda rub it over my midriff so that you can't see any white (I am also a little darker in skin tone). I've noticed that sometimes sweat doesn't show as much on flesh colored body stockings.
I'm going to have to check out the deodorant stone thing!

Re: Sweat and bodystockings, gotta fix?
Hmmm fishnet body stockings? That sounds intriguing, I will look for some, a more open weave might be very helpful, thanks for the idea.
I think my sister has some baby powder somewhere, I'll try it too during a dress rehearsal, just in case I do wind up with mud!
Thanks for all the suggestions ladies!

If you have a box in the kitchen, you could try a light dusting of corn starch. It's absorbent and has no aroma. Pour some into a dish, grab your biggest, poofiest makeup brush and have at it!

Fishnet would be perfect for you. I'm in the process of making one right now (easy peasy, I promise) and photographing it so I can put an article on my site. But meanwhile if you search Bhuz for 'fishnet' you should find several descriptions of how to do it. I know I've posted the info at least a dozen times over the years. (hence the article writing. LOL)

In order to insure smooth lines under fishnet we often wear the fishnet layered over 4-way stretch midriff covers. We also wear the 4-way stretch beneath dresses eliminating the concern re dresses riding up during upward arm movements.

Write like the wind, Lauren! I know it's easy once you get the method down, but I really messed it up the first time I tried. I need photos. Dahlal is going to start offering their powermesh ones in colors, and I'd like to suggest they add fishnet ones as well. I'd rather make my own, though, if I can get the hang of it from your tutorial!

Re: Sweat and bodystockings, gotta fix?<update>
So I think I'm pretty much swayed on the fishnet idea, and I found many of the links where you posted suggesting the Danskins Lauren, thanks, and I went shopping earlier today with the intention of buying a deodorant crystal, couldn't find one at Sally beauty, which kinda surprised me I was so sure they would have it.
What I got instead, and which worked beautifully tonite when I danced and should tide me over until I can get my hands on some danskins, was some peppermint foot spray. Has peppermint, spearmint, water and a few other benign ingredients, is completely clear and doesn't stain. I sprayed my entire body stocking with it just before I went out to perform, so the whole thing was damp, and the sweat marks blended right in...and my torso was cool and minty fresh while I was dancing.......l;,

Re: Sweat and bodystockings, gotta fix?<update>
Just go buy fishnet tights. Cut them while they are on you around the legs (trust me cut them while they are on, much better cut after they are stretched over you!). Pull the tights up to the bra (sew in hooks). Oh.. good to cut the top edge of the elastic after applying "fray check" (found in fabric store notions sestions).
Since using fishnet tights I don't have nearly the sweat problem (and let me tell you it was a problem!) They breath! Much cooler and so much more comfortable than traditional body stockings. They also make you "feel" less like a large sausage, they conform to your body much better while still holding you in.
Make sure you buy the pro wieght and not the lighter version tights, they hold you in MUCH better! Several brands make seamless, don't buy the seamed, unlike belly dance body stockings the seam is in front and back.
I ordered a pair for lots of cash only to realize they were tights cut, so now I just buy the tights myself. They come in flesh (and because they show some skin through they match your skin tone much better!) and black. I am still in search of seamless white to dye but have not found them yet.

I think Danksin has discontinued their Pro Seamless Fishnets, no? I had a hard time finding them when I went looking for them...If you have a source, let me know.

Mine are seamless, that's one of the things I love about the fishnet stockings. I bought mine on line last year and more recently from a local dancer's supply shop.

Thanks for the link, Dunyah, it says the Danskin ones are discontinued, and you have to buy them in volume, but the Capezio ones look like they should work.

p.s. I researched the professional fishnet tights availability issue and discuss that in the article a little. Thanks for the heads-up.Last edited by Lauren_; 06-14-2010 at 04:50 PM.

Brilliant explanation Lauren. And many thanks for including the model photos to show how it should work.

Another option, if you can't get seamless tights, is to find them with seams only on the front and back of the panty. Cut off just above the crotch, turn so the seams are down the side, and stitch to a pair of underwear. I have done this with several different coloured bottoms.
I also don't do the shoulder straps, but it's rare that I wear a shrug or vest. I either hook or pin the stocking into the bra band.

Haven't tried this on my belly, but I can confirm that a deodorant stone like crystal stick will work pretty well (at least it does on my REALLY sweaty feet!). You can also try gold bond instead of baby powder if you want to go the powder route.

Lauren, have I told you lately that you ROCK? This is perfect. I immediately see what I was doing wrong before: legs too short, strap placement a critical couple of inches off. Thank you so much!
As an aside, I see no bulges on your very brave model. Pfft. She's either imagining things or really good at Photoshop.
