bra cup shaping
I love my new Pharaonics, but the bra cups are weird. Instead of being very firm, they are very flexible and doesn't retain a round shape. My husband said the bra looked like it had been hit by a car.
Any recommendations? I had the idea of removing the lining and coating the back of the cup with fabric stiffener and then holding the shape with something heavy and round. I am a little scared to do that.
The cups aren't large enough to put other cups inside of them.
I wonder why this bra is like this, instead of the nice cups in the other Pharaonics.
Thanks!Last edited by SandraDances; 06-19-2010 at 08:25 PM.

I know what you are talking about. You can reshape them. I personally love a fexible cup. I hate those hard eman cupcake cups.

Re: bra cup shaping
I'm so glad you asked this- I bought a second hand pharonics & it looked like someone squashed it under a boulder for a year. I was thinking of doing the same thing, but hadn't found anything the right size & shape to drape it over while the stiffener dries & need to dig out my T pins. If it comes to that, I'm willing to try & report, but I'll wait a bit to see if anyone else has advice- it's not a flattering look right now!

The cups I hate are the ones made of football material. They only have one seam in the center running side to side. The effect is what I call the ships prow or ducks bill. It has a hard edge and looks pointy. It is very stiff usually. Is this what you mean?

Re: bra cup shaping
Anala posted something on her use of fruit (yes, grapefruits I believe) to reshape cups. She rigged up something where the cups hung somehow with a heavy piece of fruit in each cup. Hope I can find it again. Or maybe Anala will chime in here.

Re: bra cup shaping
The fruit are only effective for taking out dents, but wont change the shape of the cup. I have had my troupe mates put on a bra that has a bad, flattened, football shape that was too wide for their ribcage, and then placed my hands on either side of the cup and gently but forcefully pushed the cup together to reshape the under wire into a more narrow profile. This makes the cup a bit deeper and rounder as well. Your subject just needs to trust you!

Re: bra cup shaping
You can push the underwire. I have also heard NOT TRIED the method of soaking them in warm water and then letting them dry with the fruit/ball/round thing inside. It's only buckram and everything on your bra should be able to get wet. I wouldn't do this if it is glitter fabric, silk, flowers etc. You get the idea.

Yes, that is my method, but only works in a superficial way. Working with the under wire is more effective for real reshaping, however. Radical reshaping requires total cup replacement surgery (TCRS)- not for the faint of heart.

Re: bra cup shaping
I echo that totally reshaping involves reshaping the underwire.
However, some of the newer cups can be fixed (if they're dented or squished funny) using steam quite easily.
I put one cup over the spout of the electric kettle (full w cold water) and turn it on. Quite a bit of steam comes out before it comes to a full boil- softening up the cup enough to be able to smooth it out. Push in a stroking method to smooth out the dents. You might need to steam it two or three times to get it to hold the shape, but this method works well without soaking the outer decorative fabric and beading.

Re: bra cup shaping
Thanks, Samira, I will try this! Thanks for all the other tips.
I don't want to soak it, but I see that it might be worthwhile.
It's not a football cup. It's just a cup that is flexible enough to not have a real shape, but firm enough to have weird dents.

Re: bra cup shaping
My - oh so hot - red dress has this denty flexi cup issue as it lays on the sofa. Once I strap that baby on, the boobage pushes out the dents so you never know they are there. Do you need to pad?

Re: bra cup shaping
I'm almost falling out as it is, but it doesn't push the dents out.

Re: bra cup shaping
ok...need a pic. Not of you falling out, but of the dents. Most helpful if you have removed the lining on the worst of it and I can see into the cup itself.
