Thread: wire hem for satin skirts?

I am doing this costume with a 1/2 circle skirt. I want to add the fishing line along the hem but the satin is a little on the heavy side. Anyone ever do this with satin?

I think if you get the heaviest fishing line it should hold up well.

I have used a heavier guage for a crinoline skirt for a doll (I didn't make it a lettuce edge).

If the fishing line isn't enough, you could try horsehair braid. It gives more of a ripple than a curl, but it was commonly used in the hems of bridal gowns.

How do you add the fishing line to the bottom of the hem????

You will need a machine foot that has grooves in it to allow it to feed through the machine. I think it's called a 'cording' foot.

I've used an 'open toe' foot, but the cord can't be too thick.

I use a zig-zag stitch on my sewing machine.

If you have the right feet you can also use a serger.

I just use the regular foot.
