Covered with unsexy wounds
OK, so because I have a) giant bosoms and b) a liking for v-necks and c) extremely fair skin, especially on said bosoms, I have now got some *unsightly scars and marks* caused by a) cat's scrabbling back foot when attempting to fight enforced incarceration in the kitchen and b) a piece of tomato of thermo-nuclear heat that fell out of my panini when I was eating it and c) a couple of residual red spots from pimple-type things.
The burn is a burn, inflicted this week, and it's going to take its time, but the well-healed cat scratch is two months old and still visible. I anticipate the burn, which is in a much more noticeable position, is going to take *forever* to go away. In fact I anticipate a real scar, but it won't matter soooo much if it's not red or brown.
Any tips for speeding up the disappearance of marks on delicate white skin?

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
For the burn, I would recommend Revlon Eterna 27. I got it at Walgreens. A couple of weeks ago my troupe did an outside gig, but I hadn't thought that we'd actually be outside for all that long. None of us wore sunscreen and we ended up there for a couple of hours- I got really burned (including a neat scalloped shape burn on my boob due to the shape of my costume's bra.) With a photo shoot less than a week away, I asked for help from the make-up artist that I had hired for the shoot. She recommended Eterna 27, and it worked wonders. Within 5 days, the burn had totally gone away, no peeling (I ALWAYS peel- my skin tones are incredibly pale, burned, and peeling. There are no other options for me.) She told me that she had once gotten a 2nd degree burn and used Eterna 27 and it healed quickly, with no scar or mark of any kind. She did say that the sooner you start with it, the better.

Even the cat scratch will fade. I have had this happen to me, but it takes time. As in around 6 months.
Vit. E oil helps. So does mild exfoliation once the wound has healed. Moisturize like no ones business (good for the decolletage anyway) and be patient.

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
I wonder if a slow acting self tanner would cover it in a few days?

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
for scars and healing, i like the silicone scar patches. i wore them for a few weeks after the derm took off some "sun spots" and they really did help make a flat, skin colored spot. some people have had success with mederma. my skin is super sensitive and the silicone patches worked best. raw coconut oil is good for superficial kitty scratches. hope you feel better fast.

I haven't tried it myself, but how about that Bio Oil stuff that's supposed to help fade scars?

Bio oil is supposed to be good, as is Palmer's Coconut oil. I had forgotten about both of those. The only issue with Palmers is that you smell like suntan lotion. ;-)

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
Thanks guys! Artemisia, neither of them are in places I'd routinely expose to the sun anyway (not to mention that it's midwinter!). Anala, self-tanner is no good for me, I'm WHITE and I like to be that way! Even my own facial foundation, concealer and even highlighter are too dark to use as cover-up.
I love Palmers and was thinking of getting it out again. I haven't wanted to put it on the burn till it heals, but the other mark, for sure. I will keep an eye out for the Eterna 27 in case it is available here too!

I always use antibiotic lotion on cat scratches as long as they are red. It seems to help speed the healing a little bit.

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
I got a second degree burn on my arm from steam a couple of years ago. Like you, I thought it would never fade. (It's my arm, not cleavage, but I have sensitive fair skin). It was still visible as a dark patch about 6 mos later, but I was browsing some pictures last night and realized I hadn't thought of it in ages.
I just looked-it's gone. So hang in! It will probably fade in time, and likely will be invisible to everyone but you even sooner.

They must make theatrical and tattoo-covering makeup in pale shades. Is something like Kat Von D's "Porcelain" too dark?

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
I don't believe Kat von D's product lines are generally sold here, and I won't buy makeup online. Kyrolan Alabaster is far too dark, I can tell you that. From the look of what I see online it would be too pink.
I'm not actually looking for stage makeup to cover my scars. I'm looking for ways to help them fade better.

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
If the burn is still fresh and the skin is still raw and shiny, you might want to treat it with pure aloe vera gel until it starts to heal. Aloe is great for new burns, but you should get the 99% aloe kind from the health food store, or otherwise rip a leaf off an aloe plant if you have one, and apply the gooey stuff to your wound.
If your burn isn't raw and shiny, I'd recommend Vitamin E oil or a salve that contains calendula oil. Calendula helps soothe and regenerate the skin. I had a skin biopsy on my forearm last year and had pretty good luck using both vitamin E and a calendula and chamomile salve. I've also heard that those silicone sheets are awesome.
Also, a naturopath told me that drinking lots of green tea is good for regenerating the skin. This may or may not be sound advice, but if you like green tea, you might as well drink up!

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
Second the aloe. Again, make sure it's pure aloe you get at the health food store, not that colored crap full of alcohol and junk that you can get at the drugstore. Also, lavender essential oil. (ESSENTIAL oil, not fragrance oil. Go to the health food store for that too.) Once the burn is no longer raw, keep all of your injured parts well moisturized to help those scars go away. When I was in a car accident this past winter and got a bit of a gash on my face (yay, glasses--ugh), I made up a mixture of vitamin E oil, shea butter, coconut oil, patchouli essential oil (helps regenerate new skin) and lavender essential oil. May've had some olive and/or almond oil in there too. I put that on every day, just rubbed a little bit in well.
I had the silicone patches recommended to me for my face as well, but never tried them.

Self tanner -I was thinking more along the lines of a temp fix of making the skin blend a bit more with the darker spots till they heal. I do that if I have had a sunburn and need to camoflage it for a few days as it heals. It fades in about 3 days once the application has stopped.

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
You can definitely use the actual plant. I knew someone who was a baker who got burned on his arms quite often. He just snapped off a piece of the plant and rubbed it in. Actually had no scarring.
Mederma is another product, but according to some studies it is actually no more effective (though better smelling) than onion juice. Onions are cheap, however.

I guess you have it in other countries, its called kelosoft and its for skin marks ! even after time make them better !

If you can find Burt's Bees Res-Q Ointment, I find that stuff to be very good for helping things heal more quickly. It has comfrey and lavender in it, it's good on sensitive skin, and it doesn't clog your pores.

Re: Covered with unsexy wounds
Ambi brand fade cream is my go to for taking care of scars that have turned brown. Sometimes injured skin that heals 'forgets' what color it should be. This fade cream has 2% hydroquinone (active fading ingredient) and 2% octinoxate (sunblock). It also has vitamin E and alpha hydroxy acid though I'm not sure what the percent is. Right now I'm using the 'normal skin' formula and it's much less drying than the 'oily skin' formula. It's only about seven bucks at the drug store and sometimes you can go online and get a $3 off coupon. I had that mask of pregnancy and it has virtually disappeared along with a variety of browned scars from the kittehs. Works on age spots too, and pretty quickly. You'll see a difference in a week or two.
