Solid black costumes?
Hello, my name is Suzy, and Bhuz is my second home, tee hee! ,r:;
I bought a darling but kinda trashy strapless dress made out of a nice stretchy black sparkle fabric. The hem is the best part....a sheer ruffle that comes up in the front a bit, but I digress...
What is the general opinion on all black costumes?
My plans are to turn it into a bra/skirt combo with accessories. I've seen gorgeous predominantly black costumes but they were all from scratch (Eshta's gorgeous, yummy sparkly delights for example). Anyone make a costume such as this? Were you successful? Got photos? Opinions? Good accent colors (sick of silver/black and gold/black). Thanks in advance!

Hi Suzy! My name's Lesa. I'm new here, but I thought I'd offer a couple of accent color ideas for your consideration.
If you like a metallic look, then copper is a nice accent. If you're looking for something a little edgier, maybe modern how about bright lime green or a zebra print?
A personal favorite of mine is electric blue and black.
Just some suggestions. Have fun! :-)

Re: Solid black costumes?
all black can be stunning if you have enough shine. jet beads are lovely under lights. years ago, hallah made a costume for me from a black evening dress. black fabric with jet black beads and black fringe. it was elegant and understated. so...don't discount all black if you have enough shine and texture.

Re: Solid black costumes?
Black won't make you stand out from your background. A lot of theatrical backdrops and studio theatres have a black background so you might find yourself blending with the scenery too much! Also in a dimly lit haflah or restaurant, there may not be enough light to pick out your black bling and make it shine like it should.
If you want an accent colour, then *everything* goes with black! Turquoise, cerise, lime green, coral, buttercup, scarlet, mint green, lemon, gold, silver, marshmallow pink, apricot, just keep going round the colour wheel!
And of course there's black & white- animal prints, funky prints, geometric prints...

It sounds as if it might be nice left as a dress. If so you could go to town with decoration and accessories.

Re: Solid black costumes?
Hmmmm......I'm digging the black and white theme. I wear solid color skirts for cab so it would work very well for me as well as accent a black costume nicely.
The dress must be cut into two pieces and the top portion remade as the top is waaay too small and it has one of those shelf type bras built in. It is also strapless (no bueno for the girls and not flattering).
As broke as I am, I'll go see what the fabric stores have around here for trim (evil grin).
