    When a D/DD cup is not a D/DD cup...

    Hello out there in Bhuzland!

Many of us have problems with bra cups in Bedlahs/Costumes not being as "advertised."

I'm looking for a designer of bedlahs (Hanan, Pharaonics...etc.) that you all trust. When they say it's a D/DD cup...by gosh it's a D/DD cup!

And if you've had a good experience with a designer that gives ample room in the belt and bra band... let us know! Designers that carry Curvy or Plus Size set is a bonus!

    Can I hear an amen! 6 x 6 is not a d cup!

I LOVE bella bras, pharonics are not deep enough and I don't enjoy flat squished boobs with gross clevage.

Also like noussas-I have one for sale here that shows the cups are deep and wide.

I second Eman. I'm a DDD and not only do the cups fit but the chest band is wider and sturdier too.

Okay...now I'm going to tell on myself...

Some of these designers...I'm having a hard time locating a place to look at their stuff.

Where do you all go to order/shop for these beauties?

See, I think the problem is some designers are building bras for the "pointy/peaky" D/DDs. Whereas a lot of us are "melon" D/DDs.

It's a shame we can't buy by volume instead of circumference!

LOL! So true! And mine are...well...soft. No angles/points to be found!

I need to have the cup do just that...cup! Mashing it upwards, squashing it flat, or trying to turn it into a Madona look alike...is just not going to work.

I'm trying to find the best place to shop. Just registared for a Bella password for the sight. I'm going to go over to the ISO board too.

Bella! Older pharonics with the rounder cups. I like Emans as well. I haven't really tried much else but I know where you are coming from. I'm more like an 8.5x7 than a 6x6.

Re: When a D/DD cup is not a D/DD cup...

Any international shopper needs to work hard on educating themself about the different cupsizing conventions that differ from region to region and country to country (is it a mostly set cupsize? or the American proportional size? or proportional but different range....).

It helps to be very specific about what ways you need a fit (volume, propotion, small ribcage, no cups in the armpits).

I don't trust anyone right off the bat, but I trust my abaility to make alterations.

Hell, I don't even trust my own breasts anymore. I went up to a small ribcage DD before moving to japan...which made me an average-large ribcage size and an F cup here...and then have lost two cup sizes over the years here.

Ask questions, be specific with giving extra meassurements to cover your ass (well...your bounty).

What kind of D/DD do you need? (large rib cage, small, wide, full?)

Personally, I think cup sizes are fairly meaningless without band size. I mean, 32D is vastly different from a 38D, yet both can say that they need a D cup.

Totally second this. I have only ever bought from Eshta or made my own so I can't help otherwise, sorry.

Bella all the way for me. I keep buying other designers and they aren't anywhere near the right shape for me. I also have occasional luck with Eman Zakis.

    melon-turned-bag-of-pudding
you squish them up, they just kind of ooze, no firm roundness here, I need coverage, not padding!

watching this thread with much interest- I haven't had much luck, myself!
I take that back- I have a nice vintage Abla that I love, but that, like all the costumes that actually fit, was something passed on from another well endowed closet. I'm scared to order custom anything! Except maybe from Eshta (drool drool drool!)

Re: When a D/DD cup is not a D/DD cup...

This is problem for me too. Sometimes people think they are a certain cup size and then it turns out to be totally different. We've all heard about being properly sized at the lingerie store and being amazed at our real size. When I make bras I don't really go by cup size as much as desired height, width, and diagonal.
I have gotten some unusual bust measurements recently and just asking for this simple info ensured a great fit. People are pretty good about measuring their costumes this way on the swap so if you measure yourself in your favorite bra you should be ok. Costume bras fit totally differently than street bras and we expect more from them. So your costume bra measurement will be different than your street bra measurement. That's my experience anyways =)

I know this would be too time consuming, but it would be way too nice if BDStore, Dahlal and other vendors listed horizontal and vertical cup measurements on their in-stock costumes. I know I have the opposite problem, but I'm sick of buying "A/B"-cup costumes that creep into my armpits or up to my collarbone.

    As others have said, you really can't rely on cup size alone...,r:;

Speaking of cup size, I had the strangest experience trying on a costume at Amira Kattan's (Pharaonics) atelier about 10 years ago. I tried on a dress, but explained to her assistant that the cups were too small. She took the dress and manipulated the cups, and then they fit me. I wish I had looked more closely at what she did. I'm thinking she changed the shape a bit to make them deeper instead of wider.

Yeah I find the deeper cups are better for a larger size bra as well. Pharonics haven't been that gerat lately, the cups seem falt. I find I fit best in Bella, Legend, Eshta, & Eman best! ;-)
Not only would it be nice if vendors listed cup measurement but also "depth" or "largest bust along with ribcage.

I like Hanan bras the best. She also makes her costumes in pretty large sizes (I even have one I have to sell because it's an F and I'm back down to a DD.)

I was going to mention this.
Add in to the picture the BIZARRE method of measuring the Victoria's Secret people have started. Completely different from everyone else in the US and in my experience inaccurate.
At bellydancestore.com they *usually* make note of the width of the cups and limit the reported measurement of the band accordingly. For example, if the cups are really narrow, even if the goes really broad, they won't report the full measurement of the band. A 38A would be really unhappy with A cups more suited for a 32A. The opposite is true as well.

Thanks for the shout-out, Andalee! Hopefully within the next month the site will be overhauled and added to. I'm lining up a photo shoot for the awesome new stuff I got, and the ordering system needs to be corrected in the worst way. I can't even get e-mail right now!

For the OP, Yasser and Hanan make nice full cups. Some folks have acreage and some have depth, and cup shape and placement can really affect the fit. It's rare that something fits "out of the box", so if it helps any you're not alone in that aspect.

And there's variation among brands, certain cup designs work better for one bust than another...
