new stuff at the bellydancestore.biz
Hey Ladies,
What is the general concensus of the "Sparkling Ice" costumes at the bdstore? Very interesting. Seems like a cross between Aziz and Sahar, but I don't know about the quality.
Also, and I know Samira would know this, but maybe others do, too, is the Pharaonics "Femelle" very sheer on the sides of the skirt? How risque is it?
Thanks! I look forward to hearing others' opinions on Sparkling Ice. Nice price, for sure!

There are some nicer-looking Desert Swirls now, too. Same price as the basic design but the beadwork looks fancier.

Re: new stuff at the bellydancestore.biz
I haven't worn a Sparkling Ice. From what I remember from a quick look- basic non-designer quality. A little better than Desert Swirl (I think) and definitely a modern look, which I like.
Femelle is hmmm... "sheer sexy" on the sides, not "sheer trampy" on the sides (IMO).

Re: new stuff at the bellydancestore.biz
I saw a "Femelle" today, and agree with Samira -- sexy. not trampy. The one I saw had black mesh on the sides, and those of us who were there shopping would lean towards wearing black Spanx underneath to cut down on the "wonder what kind of undies she's wearing?" thoughts.

I am utterly flabbergasted that they now have *multiples* of the pompom-Tarzan costume! LOL

Re: new stuff at the bellydancestore.biz
"This will sell in Japan" is a common phrase on some days. Yes, fashions, styles and aesthetics are different if different areas of the world.
The classics never go out of style though- that's why she can hardly keep Hodas in stock and Pharaonics fly out of the store.
It's a hard balance- "stick with what will sell" vs "getting stale"
"new and innovative" vs "huh?"
"cost efficient" vs "looks like a kindergartner made it"
"high quality components and workmanship" vs not understanding the cost and time that goes into it.
I think for the most part the big name designers are putting out nice stuff. The lower end- some of them are good deals, some of them are "huh?" The lower end- in general aren't designers with training. They're people who see it as a way to make a living and making a living is tough over there.
Does anybody remember the nude mesh Mamdouh with the starry bling in really inappropriate places? lol. That one didn't take long to sell, if I recall correctly. You really never know.

Re: new stuff at the bellydancestore.biz
The sad thing is that there are some truly unfortunate costumes, design/color-wise, that have really amazing beadwork. All that wasted time and effort... Well, at least wasted on me.

I wish they carried more of the desert swirls and other decent non-designer costumes in my size!

Re: new stuff at the bellydancestore.biz
The "sparkling ice" style is really popular in Cairo right now among all the no-name vendors at the Khan el Khalili - I came home with 2 from my latest trip this past January, sold one here on bhuz, and wear the other one often. (Pic on my front page - Fatima - Professional Belly Dancer, and more on my gallery page)
I don't know who made BD store's costumes, but mine are pretty good quality - comparable to any of the lycra costumes that were popular a few years ago at the same price point.

I don't have to log in unless I'm buying something. Weird.

Goodness. You ladies are FAST!
Latifa, I was still there taking pictures when you posted this. lol.
I think this is an appropriate time for the phrase "yes, it's my hair. I paid for it." lol
Nouria- love your curls! They're beautiful!
It's just fun to play with other looks sometimes.

I like some of the sparkling ices but other ones ... not so sure.
I don't like having a big star right on my nipple! I figure these costumes were definitely designed by men!
