False Eye lashes
okay i thought i was being very smart & did a trial with full eyemake up when i decided to try false eye lashes. had no problems getting them on in the right place. i was thinking this is easy what's the big deal. jump to yesterday when false eye lash murphy's law took effect. i glued everything but the eye lash to the eye lid. they didn't go on easy. it was like they were made to NOT go on not just my eye lid, but eye lids in general. so i'm wondering what, WHAT was i doing wrong? sigh. any false eye lash tips please?

Re: False Eye lashes
Lots of tips and tricks. . .
#1 bend those little suckers before you start to put them on so the they are more willing to curve to your eyes.
#2 cut them to the right length. You have no idea how even a little too long can make putting them on way to hard!
#3 make sure you wait after applying the glue until it gets tacky. If the gue is too wet, the lash will slide right off.
#4 Don't try putting them on over gel eye liner. Trust me on this one!
#5 Power your eye lids prior to applying the lashes.
#6 sometimes be willing to concede the fight and use really good mascara instead.
There are more hints, tricks and tips, but that is what I can think of off the top of my head. I am sure that other will add more!

Azhia has some fabulous tips. She had a thread about lashes a while ago...

Re: False Eye lashes
Azhia's tutorial is amazing.
When I was starting out with lashes, or any day I'm feeling unlucky still, I put on my mascara, liner & lashes first, an hour before I have to leave, and walk around in them for a while before I start getting ready.
That way, if I have huge problems, I can wash my face & start over. If the second time doesn't 'take' I resign myself and just do loads of mascara instead.

Re: False Eye lashes
I second on Azhia's tutoral.

Curve and bend before, wait a little for the glue to get tacky and put them on with the eye opened! Believe me if I've learned to do this, everyone can ..g.:!
The last week I put them on so quickly, I was amazed at myself!..l;,
Keep praticing, you'll see.

Re: False Eye lashes
I never do any gigs without lashes anymore. I wear the big 1 inch + ones...
My tip would be time.
If possible I give myself 2 hours to do hair and makeup. I find the more rushed I am (especially with lashes) the more mistakes I make

Re: False Eye lashes
Similar to Lauren, but if my schedule allows, I like to put lashes on way earlier in the day so that is the only thing I have to deal with at the time, then there is no pressure to deal with them later on while I'm getting ready.
Also, as far as trimming, I like to cut about 1/4 to 1/3 of the lash from the long ends. I line up the outer edge of the trimmed lashes with my own lashes, and they are long enough so that the inner part curves still over the center, so they're shorter than a full lash but longer than a demi. It seems a lot easier to work with and doesn't get too close to the inner corner where the skin seems more sensitive.
Then I take the pieces I've trimmed off and glue them right on top of the first set at the outer edges for more thickness.

Re: False Eye lashes
To answer, before the lashes, I put a base of Mac paint pot and and if I need to run an errand or something, I may put a touch of shadow to feel ok in public, but don't put on hardcore shadow and makeup until later.

Re: False Eye lashes
I agree with all the advice here and will just reiterate that the two most likely causes of failure with false lashes are 1) not letting the adhesive tack up and 2) using strips too long for your eyes. IMO, lashes are easiest to put on if they stop a little short of both corners of your eyes. As others have said, you can trim any lashes to fit, but I always just buy the "demis" and the fit me perfectly.
Also, once I get mine on, I cement them into place even further by lining my upper lid with a thick crust of eye kandy glitter.

Re: False Eye lashes
okay isn't it difficult to do your eye makeup with your lashes on already?
yeah i'm going to trim mine so that they are just inside where my lash line is by a tiny bit.

Re: False Eye lashes
inspired by this thread, I decided to wear my fake lashes last night. It worked great !! and I haven't used them at least for 2 years!
1. I had an old cheap, unused set. I took 1 lash and cut it in half, so each of my eye got a half. I think using half-lashes on the outer part is better, because they don't bother me so much, and there is a better chance of staying on. And while they're petty, they're not so obvious.
2. I did my eye make up as I usually do, even did the liner - although this time I just used a pencil.
3. curled my lashes, added mascara, etc, so I was done as far as my eyes were concerned.
4. curled the fake ones, too, just one little bend.
5. waited about 30 seconds for the glue to set on the lashes.
6. added them to the outer part, walked around and gave it time to "act up" - about a half an hour.
Then they lasted through 2 performances, and partying until 2 am! we danced so much, we were all sweaty, but the lashes didn't even move! Even at 3 am when I took them off, they were still so attached, that they would've lasted another 5 hours.
I think I will star wearing them more often, they looked really nice!
thank you for the advice!
one reason I didn't like them before, is that I was told not to add eyeliner, but the lashes on then add the liner. But I always felt that if they come off, I will look weird, because I'll have full eye make up on, without the liner. But if I do my entire eyes, if the lashes do come off, I still look normal. so I think this is the way to do it.

Re: False Eye lashes
there's a mascara advertising on cable right now from one of those popular cosmetic companies something with falsies in the name - i believe it's the falsies, by maybelline, but it's meant to give you the overdone fake eyelash glam look...maybe you can try it?

Re: False Eye lashes
I tried following Azhia's awesome, easy-to-understand tutorial the last few times I experimented with fake lashes, but I must still have been doing something wrong! Bending the lashes the way she did for quite a long time did not seem to make them more curved at all, and I have very curved eyes, so that was my biggest problem. I waited for the glue to get tacky, but it appears that the "tacky" stage lasted for a fraction of a second between "not tacky yet" and "too dry to stick to anything." That wasn't long enough for me to be able to fight the lack-of-curve in the lash band as I tried to stick them on my eyes. I eventually gave up and just used Fiberwig mascara for my performance (which I have since fallen madly in love with), but I wish I could manage to make those little buggers work.

Re: False Eye lashes
Perhaps not you, but the type of lashes you're using and/or the glue.
Certain lash bands (usually the cheap, poorly made ones, no disrespect) do not take a bend at all.
Some good "bendy" lashes: Ardell, MAC, Kawiwi.com (on eBay), Make Up Forever, Shu Uemura.
Sucky "bendy" lashes: NYC, Halloween lashes.
I don't normally "wait" for the glue to get tacky. Once I run the lash along the glue, I apply and hold to the area.
You can also cut your full lash into 3 sections and apply more easily one at a time. This is how I started learning to wear false lashes before getting comfortable enough to "graduate" to a full band.

Re: False Eye lashes
I tried a couple different kinds of cheaper lashes (I wanted them to practice on, so I didn't mess up good ones) and what looked like a decent pair made by Sephora. I might try the sectioning you're talking about.

Re: False Eye lashes
This tutorial really helped me - I think it was the looking down into the mirror part so you can actually really see what you're doing, and using the end of a brush to apply glue and press the lash onto the lid that really helped me: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLdcs6C1Zic]YouTube - False Lashes Application[/ame]
She also recommends putting on liner before lash application to help conceal the fake lash line if you can't get it close enough to your real lash line.
Good luck!
