    Glam Hair in Humid Weather

    Beginning to think I need some new hairstyles for when I move down to hot, sticky FL. Even back home, I'm doing way too many outdoor gigs in 85% humidity. ,r:;

    I have straightish, coarse "horsetail" kinda hair. I can do the big curly glamour hair look if it's fairly dry outside, but when I curl it in humid weather, it turns into a giant frizzy poofball of doom. I love my clip-on ponytail, but I don't want to wear it ALL the time.

    What are your favorite humidity-defying tips, tricks and hairstyles?

    Especially when it is hot as well as humid, I actually play around with some nice, slicked back fancy updos- I have semi curly hair that likes to resort to 'puffball of doom' (as you so aptly put it!) regularly, and there is no taming it into soft locks once the humidity hits- even in a dry winter inside, if I'm sweating & it's warm, it tends to frizz out.- There was, once upon a time, a 'nourishing gel' that would keep things both tamed & not stringy or stiff, but they stopped carrying it locally & I haven't found a replacement. I can't even remember the name, it used to come in this big white tub from the wig & hair supply place.

    If all else fails, you can always resort to good old aquanet helmet-head.

    If your hair is really straight you can put gel in it and then braid it, let it dry for a crimped/curly wild look, you can pull the sides back and up to keep it off your face

    Yeah, the faux pony = epic WIN. It's frizz-free and keeps my hair out of my face. Maybe I should try to find a 3/4 wig, but I have a hard time finding really long ones. Most seem to come down to bra strap length.

    Maybe I just need to embrace my frizz and go for a Donna Summer 'fro ,r:;

    In Florida in the summer ... embrace the up-do or the fake hair ... TRUST ME ... the humidity is invincible ... you can welcome your gorgeous hair back once fall hits ... at least that's my experience :-p

    Fake hair all the time. And I wear mine for more than just dance. Last month we were at an outdoor wedding on a very humid and overcast day. On with the wig! Hair stayed great all day. For everyday, wear your hair up or French braid. Just get it off your neck. If you don't use anit-frizz you might need to. Luckily not many outdoor gigs in the summer other than unpaid community troupe shows. Where you are going to be the weather will be nice during late fall, winter and early spring with lower humidity.

    Good call! Even though the weather is almost always pleasant on the coast (even when it's hot), it's still a perpetual bad hair day ,r:;

    Maybe I should try some of the other hair-pets, like those cool braided buns, an I Dream of Jeannie Ponytail, etc. And get some little rhinestone hair clippies.

    Any good anti-frizz products you guys recommend? I really like Aquage's Silkening Oil, which contains Argan oil, but I'm open to suggestions.

    i agree about busting out the fake hair. i need to start doing that more often though, i have an outside thing this friday (at city walk actually!) and i think i might bust out my fake pony.

    u've seen my outdoor pics though, it gets very hot, very fast. specially here in FL. at that point i dont worry about no frizz, i worry about not having heat exhaustion LOL like i did 2 weeks ago..ugh, no fun.

    If you're coming to FL I really recommend the faux hair...and there's a line of beauty stores in the Orlando area called "super beauty depot". They have aisles and aisles of wigs, half wigs, 3/4 wigs, falls, pieces, pony tails, makeup, jewelry, and lots of beauty supplies to keep you circling around the store forever. I'm sure you'd find something in there, even if it's just a nice and sparkly hair clip! You never know.

    Wow, Birdielee, per your recommendation in FL, I checked a website named SuperBeautyDepot dot com, and their prices are UNBELIEVABLY LOW! I saw some very long 1/2 wigs for about $20-22! (Example style names: "HW Xena Futura," "Aspen Girl"). They carry an incredible number of wig products.

    Fekkai Glossing Cream is good for removing frizz and adding shine. Use it sparingly on the ends.

    If you are into making your own beauty products, try flax seed hair gel. It only lasts about a week and you have to keep it in the fridge. Looks like snot but, once dry, it doesn't get sticky.

    There are probably commercial versions available but I just think it's more fun cooking up my own slime.

    how would one go about cooking some of the flaxseed gel up? (I'm always open to experimenting w/ homemade products)

    Used this recipe without the aloe:

    Flax Seed Hair Gel Recipe

    It's not that hard but it takes a bit to strain the seeds out of the gel. It took some major muscle for me to get the stuff strained through a pantyhose. I imagine cheesecloth might be a bit easier.

    And if you can't find the long hair, I'll take you to some wig places in Vegas next time you are here! We have a huge wig warehouse that has everything from creating your own clip in extensions, to ponytails of every length and style. When I wore ponytails, I would take a strip of fabric that matched my outfit, or the beaded headbands from my costumes, and tie it around the base so you couldn't see the line where the fake hair started

    Now that sounds like something I would like to check out when I come to the LVBI in September. Would you mind sharing the addresses?
