Help with my colors make up and cossie
Ladies and Gents,
I had a friend tell me today that she thought I was picking the "wrong" colors to wear. Not just in costumes but in general...pretty much everything. ..cr.: I'm not the best "dresser" but didn't feel like I was as bad as she made out. I won't go into details but I was crushed by her blunt/abrasive delivery. She did later call and apologize. But now I'm thinking that she had some good points and would like to ask Bhuz for help. Please let me know what you think my "best" and most flattering colors are. I tend to like burgundy, turquoise, navy blue, etc....gray.....I was dressed in a lot of pastels as a child and tend to shun them now but maybe I shouldn't?
I'm dark blonde with blue eyes (gray blue not bright Paul Newman blue), my skin has a "golden" (yellow) undertone but I'm quite pale. I do have some freckles. One picture is when I was experimenting with eye makeup but hadn't used any foundation yet and the other is just a natural shot outside with no makeup. I also need more makeup and hair help but that is a whole different thread maybe....

Thank you for any help/tips....I feel lost in this...like I missed some sort of big girl transitional meeting ..l;,

Dani,
You're such a natural beauty! I think playing up your eyes and cheekbones would really make your coloring pop. I would schedule a session with Ao or the new Sephora in Portland to get some color and make up tips.
I think you'd look good in jewel tones and bright colors. I am trying to branch out in my own color choices and think there's no wrong color for anyone--its just a matter of finding the right hue & color saturation.

First of all, I can't believe how beautiful your skin is with no foundation. I wish mine looked that good.
I like your eye makeup but feel like it should be bolder for performance. It looks fantastic for a night out or for a bellygram kind of gig where you'll be very close to your audience, but you need more for an outdoor or a stage performance.
Your cheeks and lips need more color. I echo what Jess said and make an appointment with AO to have her help you.

And for costume colors, I like Jess's idea of bright jewel tones. I'm thinking Royal Blue, Emerald Green, Purple. Hmmm, really liking the idea of you in green.

Go brighter, more vibrant! Ditto on the jewel tones and *do* try purples!

Ladies...you are SO SWEET! I'll stick with some nice jewel tones. I have a burgundy L rose set and a deep purple. I also have Amity's home made emerald green cossie that I thought looked good color wise.
Azhia - I LOVE your makeup DVD and use it often....definitely a good buy for me : )
I was thinking of maybe Turquoise and i'm in love with Shahla's Tanzanite costume...was wondering if that color might work with me or it it's in the wrong tone.

Re: Help with my colors make up and cossie
To me you look like a classic Spring. (Are you too young to remember Color Me Beautiful? For a while everybody got their colors done.)
"Spring" beauties wear: turquoise, coral, plum... think of spring flowers when the bulbs appear: yellow daffodils, clear pink tulips, creamy white hyacinths, blue iris.
To me burgundy seems too dark for you -- I think burgundy, forest green, navy all might make you look a little somber.
Color Me Beautiful also had a makeup book. You could always check your library... there have been a lot of color analysis books over the years and they are fascinating.

Re: Help with my colors make up and cossie
Kind of harsh of your friend, at least she could have put you on "What Not to Wear" so you got $5000 and a makeover! Sheesh! She sounds like my bff who keeps me straight. I don't always like to hear what she has to say but usually she has some good points if she isn't completely right.
I agree with Tigerb; I'm old enough to remember Color Me Beautiful and I think you look like a spring too and I really can't imagine you in burgundy, but I bet green is stunning on you. You can try to do your own colours on their website : Find Your Season-Would You Say Your Hair Is Light or Dark Color Me Beautiful
As for makeup, I recently purchased some of Coastal Scents' palettes; the 88 pallette and the 42 shimmer/with blush and I am very happy with the product and the cost, for $60 including shipping I got 120 eye colours and 10 blush/bronzers. I couldn't get that kind of value at the drugstore/department store cosmetics counter and now I have pretty much any colour I could possibly need.
I used to be in the beauty industry but focused on hair, so I also brushed up on make up tips by watching some tutorials on YouTube, and then tried some of the techniques myself. For me, I am better at watching and then trying it myself immediately afterwards; I have never been able to recreate a look that I got from a make-over or professional make up artist, probably because my eyes are closed most of the time so I can't see what is going on! So get some make up and play around. Your friend can let you know if you're doing it right! LOL
And you are a natural beauty, so keep a light hand on your daytime makeup, you don't need much. Your skin will change as you age, so enjoy and appreciate your beautiful skin now, it doesn't last forever.

Re: Help with my colors make up and cossie
I DO remember Color Me Beautiful!!!!
Dressing For Success Spring Season-Shop By Season-Color Me Beautiful
I think I'm a "Warm Spring" because my hair has gold tones and I have a yellow cast to my skin not pink (except the cheek area where I have some rosacea???) I'm thinking about getting the swatches so I have a visual guide but they are $$$ and I can't tell if it's just for a warm spring or for all springs???
I am soaking up all this information and advice!
Burgundy set (Dorky pose and I DO need more makeup) I just bought this as an early birthday present for myself .... bummer it's the wrong color!!!!

Good color, that burgundy. It needs gold as an accent color, not silver. You need more gold jewelry with it around your face with a brighter lipstick and more blush. And where is your hair?

Re: Help with my colors make up and cossie
That might well be true, but for some people, finding the RIGHT purple can be tricky. Most pale purples wash out on me, and most dark purples make me look tired. Even medium ones usually make me look sallow. It took me a loooong time to find just the right shade of purple--an extremely oh-my-god-that's-bright, eye-popping, pigment-rich warm lavender from Make Up For Ever. So if you try on a number of purples and are getting discouraged, don't give up!

i always find pastels are magnificent on lighter complexions, especially those with lighter hair.

Bright blue, turquoise, fuchsia, grass green, cherry red, the bright lavender color of my favorite purple eyeshadow (Make Up For Ever #9 Lavender, if you want to look it up). You might even be able to pull off a bright primary yellow. Pastels will wash you out, and colors that are too dark will dim that sunshine-y beauty you have. Here are some pictures of Aka'i veils that have colors I think would work for you.

And yes, I realize that last one is all the colors of the rainbow. I think that would look ADORABLE on you.

Re: Help with my colors make up and cossie
Your eye makeup in the first post is pretty, but I think that you should go bolder with it. I would possibly fill in your eyebrows very lightly, too.
I think you'd look really good in turquoise and bright colors in general. With makeup, I would go to MAC or Sephora and play around with your look. You may be surprised what looks amazing on you. Worst case scenario is that you hate what they did and have to wash your face. Sort of the same thing with daily clothes; if you don't like what you've tried on, don't buy it! No loss from trying.
