Problem with Great Loop?
I recently got one, and so did one of my students.
At the first performance, we *both* had a loop of fringe come loose. Didn't catch on anything, just shimmied loose at one end and was dangling.,f::
I wore it once to dance in a restaurant and about FOUR loops had come loose by the end of my first set!!! ,m:: I think it's a combination of catching on things and just shimmying.
I know lots of you have them, is this a common issue? Is there a solution? Should I run a beading needle through each loop and secure them? (that doesn't seem right, given what the set costs, but I would do it if it would help).
Or is it just the nature of the design to be fragile?

Re: Problem with Great Loop?
I've seen this happen with alot of great loops. It seems more common in the newer ones. I think Pharonics quality has dropped just a little from what they were even just a few years ago. I would try taking something like Aleene's Stop Fraying and try to reinforce the ends of the loops at the string where they are attached.

It's happened to me. I didn't have time to reinforce each strand, but I did fray check the actual string of fringe...didn't seem to make much of a difference. It's a shame, really.

Re: Problem with Great Loop?
I owned two and it happened to me while I was altering one. I've never had a strand break and all of the beads go flying everywhere, but they would come loose. I went through and reinforced all of the ones that looked loose. These were purchased about a year ago. I thought them to be of high quality for the price. I think it is sort of an inevitability of that much looped fringe.
I also pulled out all the big jewels and glued them down. (Then I sold them both because I was being "optimistic" about my bra size)

Re: Problem with Great Loop?
That sucks!
Maybe you all could just sew through the last bead of each loop instead of going through the whole loop?

Re: Problem with Great Loop?
Oh, no! I have had that happen with other looped fringe costumes, but I only wore that GL once so didn't experience it. I'm sorry about that.
I would glue the stones in, though, but for me that's SOP with any Pharaonics.

Re: Problem with Great Loop?
i have a short torso and sometimes the middle belly loops get caught on the big gem in the middle of the belt, so i cut the bottom 6 stands and tied them off with big big knots, then to keep proportions i took off the bottom 3 of each of the 4 sets of boobie loops and did the same thing. i do mean BIG knots, cut the loop at least an inch and a half down the string and make a big big knot. it doesn't show under the sequins and the string might be connected to other loops.
you can resew the top of the fringe down, i've only had to do that on one of the belt strings, but mine's second hand so maybe it's from the "better quality era"? oooh, that makes me nervous, my ultimate plan was to make a gold coin bedlah and sell this GL for a silver one... hmmm.... i hope they get quality back up before then
i have an icicle set where the whole strands break and send beads a flying, it makes me happy i wear shoes.Last edited by raqFariha; 07-16-2010 at 03:12 PM.

Re: Problem with Great Loop?
I had no problems with the first one I owned, but the brand new one I just bought had a strand come loose before I even put it on!

Re: Problem with Great Loop?
Exactly the same thing happened with my GL. I bought one used here on Bhuz and haven't lost a single bead (that I am aware of). My new one I lost 2 loops. I've worn it twice and each time lost a loop. Also on the first one the round stones are larger than the newest one. Really not sure if that's related but just an overall statement of quality.
