I ruined my peach Venus ...photos added
And I JUST sold it to someone on bhuz!
I took it out of it's container to take it to the post office and just about fell over. It was in a container with a scented candle to keep it smelling nice and not musty from the container...well the candle melted all over the skirt.
Not ALL over, and the wax came out, but what ruined the costume is the candle Oil. The chiffon on the skirt has splotches of discoloration. I tried washing it with dawn dish soap and woolite and it hasn't come out. Anyone have any suggestions?
I think I could easily take the chiffon off the belt and get a new skirt.
I messaged the buyer and she's waiting for good pictures before she decides to go ahead with the sale or if I should refund her her money.

Crying for you!!!
I would try taking the skirt off and washing in the washer. Or taking it to the dry cleaners.

Re: I ruined my peach Venus
No suggestions for getting the oil stains out but I think offering her the costume at a discount seems reasonable. I think it would be relatively easy to detach the stretchy upper part of the the venus skirt/belt from the fluffy chiffon. It might be hard for her to get a good color match and the arabesque skirts are pricey so I'm not sure what a fair discount offer would be.
That sucks! I feel so sad for you ..cr.:..cr.:
I use dryer sheets and sometimes go as far as to put the dryer sheer in a trouser sock or wrapped some light weight fabric so it doesn't leave marks.
I had a friend buy a costume recently and the seller didn't disclose several oil stains/blotches on the skirt. She contacted the seller and asked for a price adjustment or refund and never got a reply from the seller.,m::

Re: I ruined my peach Venus
That happened to one of my lycra costumes with shamadan candles.
I had a 5" greasy splotch and cried when I realized what happened. Martha Stewart to the rescue. I ironed the area with a paper towel over it to melt the wax/oil and then it absorbed into the paper towel. Start with really really really low heat and change paper towels frequently.

Re: I ruined my peach Venus
Will it take the oil out of the costume or just wax?

I've done the iron trick, too, but with a brown paper bag. worked so well on my carpet that I got my full apartment security deposit back when I moved out--despite the fact that an entire scented candle melted all over the floor.

I'm sorry I can't help you but I was thinking maybe you could take it to the cleaners - I'm sure there are some tricks, and they probably know it.

Oh how annoying! I think your discount is pretty reasonable though - if it was me I'd chop off the skirt and go get a coordinating arabesque skirt from bellydancestore.

Re: I ruined my peach Venus
Oh my! I feel for ya! I sold Satinworship's white rings costume about 1.5 months ago and I left it out while taking a shower. My two year old son drew on a little bit of one of the hips. I refunded the buyer the money and then decided to fix it myself by creating a cut-out, putting nude mesh in and rhinestones. I thought it turned out well, and turns out the buyer re-bought the costume. But what a nightmare that was!

Re: I ruined my peach Venus
I will definitely try the iron once i get home. I'm worried that by washing it 4 times with soap and laundry detergent that I may have set it somehow. Thanks for your advice and I'll keep you posted!

Re: I ruined my peach Venus
You might try Murphy's Oil Soap. I had a brand new down jacket that got tree sap on it and spot cleaning with the oil soap took it out. I also used it to get melted crayon color out of my daughter's coat after I washed and dried a handful of crayons zipped in the pocket. I get the soap at the local grocery store.

Thanks Rassicahl, if the ironing doesn't work I'll be going to the store to try that!

Re: I ruined my peach Venus
Here's an update:
I tried ironing just now with no luck :( took a few pictures. for some reason the flash makes it look SO bad, but it's really not that bad, as the last two photos will show.

I got some Murphy's oil soap so I will try that next!

It's the car wash skirt that's hard to recreate. If I were you I'd cut your losses and do a new double layer skirt and attach it. But maybe do the top layer in a sparkly peach.

Hi!
If the oil soap doesn't work, I would also sew a new double-layered skirt after taking of the ruined one. I think that's the easiest way...
So sorry for you!
Love, Sahira.

An alternative would be to email Amira and see what it would cost to put a new skirt on? Im sure she would feel bad for you too!
