Skirt enthusiasts
posted on fb too..
I'm obsessed with skirts!!!
SKIRT ENTHUSIASTS, NEED HELP ..need feedback about silk skirts in general, do you prefer tiered or ruffled (even if the price of tiered is more)? how much yardage is decent for an everday wear silk skirt? four yards? how about a bellydance skirt? is ten yards good , or do you like the 15 yard? or is that too much fabric?
for everyday wear skirts, do you want to have a matching top? or scarf..something that 'matches' and completes the oufit? for dancers, do you want a matching choli or vest? would you be fine with fabric so you could make your own?
considering that it is SILK and not cotton, what is your comfortable price range for silk skirts for everyday wear? for dance wear?

Re: Skirt enthusiasts
I'm in the market for a tiered tribal style silk skirt 15 yards or over. A friend of mine has a 20or25 yard skirt in silk that she paid $100 or so for but it was quite a few years ago and I'm sure it would be more $$$ now.
I'd also love to get a 15 yard skirt for everyday wear in some soft blues...but I have no idea about the $$$.

Re: Skirt enthusiasts
my favorite silk skirt is a circle skirt (maybe circle & a half?) with a 10" ruffle at the bottom in a different color- sadly, I gave it away years ago because it no longer fit :( would happily pay $125-$150 for another- could potentially be talked into more for a fuller skirt plus a tunic or a 3/4 sleeve wrap choli. I like coverage.

Re: Skirt enthusiasts
Lara, my favorite skirt is one I bought from Ganesha Bazaar a few years ago, I don't know if they still sell them..it was circle skirt style, but tiered, with a ruffle on the bottom..I'll have to dig up a picture..it wasn't made of silk though.
still playing with ideas, thanks for the feedback!
might make life easier and just stick to circle skirts for dance, and those double layer wrap skirts for everyday wear...have had some requests for 1/4 in front circle skirts might look into that too

Re: Skirt enthusiasts
I don't know if this does you any good whatsoever...
But I'm lusting after one of my dance sister's skirts - she was nice enough to show me how she made it. Somewhere between 20 and 25 yards, and it flows like a dream and weighs a TON. Not silk though.
I actually have never tried a silk skirt of any kind - but I'm accepting donations! ..l;,

I just had to say, every time I see the title of this thread I think it's some polite British euphemism for men who are always chasing after women ,r:;

Re: Skirt enthusiasts
I have a 25 yard silk skirt with a big ole flounce at the bottom from LRose. Just like veils, Zorba, once you go silk, you never go back!..g.:

Re: Skirt enthusiasts
Lol skirt peepers!!
What can I say, I've been obsessed with skirts for years..ones I can wear every day, out dancing, to a beach, on a cruise, and of course for bellydance.
What has been really fantastic about this journey is that I realize what types of costuming I really enjoy..I LOOOOOVE circle skirts (especially those with 1/4 panel in front..hey it's Hawaii)...I LOOOOVE silk skirts that flutter in an ocean breeze (I guarantee it attracts attention)..I love seeing office women on casual fridays wear wrapped skirts or a scarf with a caftan..
I also love big big big spinny skirts..I enjoy, and see the need, to create skirts that dancers WANT. Something that is affordable but attractive. Something that is different. But I also love exploring the ideas of taking something previous, or seen before, and adding a new twist on it.
It's far too early to spill details but I'm working with a skilled seamstress on a big spinny style skirt (hopefully with matching vest) using silk I dye along with other fabrics, in panels. Much like the skirts that I have adored from Glitzy Gypsy but could never afford. And every time I go thru these brainstorm and "ask bhuz" research threads, it reinforces the personal things I really like about dance and costuming..where does A'Kai fit in? and where does Jesennia fit in? So I get the benefit of both..making moveable art for dancers that dancers WANT and making things that I enjoy doing as well.
I thank you all so much for your feedback and constant research answers.
soon there will be something new..am hoping by the time 'season' really starts that I will be able to do CUSTOM ORDERS on these skirts.
