what is the proper style to call it?
This may be posted in the styles thread but it has to do with big spinny skirts...what is the pc term to call this now? I know gypsy is a no no, but what if it's not really tribal, not really Spanish, ..
is there a term that can be coined?
and who, as dancers, come to mind? Dalia Carella?

Multi-tiered skirts? I overheard one vendor call hers Stacked tiered skirts. Or you could create your own term.

Re: what is the proper style to call it?
a specific skirt style, or spinny skirts in general? the tiered skirts are most often called 15 yard skirts or 25 yard skirts, etc (depending on appropriate length of the hem edge)
circle skirts with ruffles most often are called ruffled skirts, circle skirt is pretty self explanatory, & I've seen all kinds of names for other skirt styles- the one I designed while pregnant is known locally as Lara's wrap skirt/transition skirt no matter what else I have tried to brand it as ;)

if you design a skirt, I vote for something like 'ocean breeze' or "Jessenia's spinning skirt"

here- let me just write a million posts!
Dalia Carella, Amaya, Artemis Mourat, Saqra, Eva Cernik are who come to my mind (mostly 'cause they're the ones who I learned skirt dances from!)

Re: what is the proper style to call it?
I've heard them called "peasant" skirts, which is probably still un-PC, but it's more generic. I'd just go with "tiered" myself.

I agree with Tourbeau, I prefer the simple yet descriptive option - tiered skirts feels right. Of course A'kai's Tiered Skirts would be the most descriptive. Most descriptive plus it brands your product.

Around here, we just name them by the yardage on the bottom tier. It’s not that exciting, but it gives us bragging rights.

Re: what is the proper style to call it?
If it has one flounce at the bottom, it's a flounce skirt. If it has obvious multiple, separate layers sewn together it's a tiered skirt. Or describe it by the yardage.
