Warm/Cool skin and color assistance please!

I still can't figure out if my skin is warm or cool or what sort of undertones I have. I was hoping that bhuzzers could help me out here on warm/cool, undertones and colors that I could possibly wear. I'm pretty limited in my wardrobe and it pretty much consists of blue. (Except the burgundy shirt shown here obviously...)

    Thanks everyone!

Please excuse my silly face. It was the best one of the whole roll.....g.:

Edited because I forgot to ask nicely.

Your skin looks alot like mine, and I was told by a color analyst once that I'm a "spring" with warm skin tones.

However, think the colors I look good in include both warm and cool colors. I look good in most shades of pink, green, blue, purple, and brown. Also black which is not supposed to be on my color pallette. I dislike wearing white and pastels -- I think they wash me out terribly. On stage I stick with jewel tones.

I'm inclined to think cool but it could be my monitor. You've got reddish tones in your hair but so did I, and I am definitely not warm-toned. OTOH I could imagine you wearing gold jewellery...

I personally think jewellery is a good indicator. Most people can wear silver, a few don't really suit it, but if your skin is warmer toned you'll probably really suit gold. If you are cooler toned you're going to be silver all the way.

The other all-time classic would be getting yourself a purple cloth and a peach cloth. Hold each up to your face, covering all other colours around you. Which one makes you look MOST disgusting? If (like me) it is peach, you are cool-toned.

In the old Color Season parlance, I would say that you are a Fall, because of your red hair and what appears to be slight yellow undertones. This can include black but you'll get more mileage from Black if you wear gold jewelry.

I would also think about how colors make you feel. How do you feel in a true, vibrant red? How about the white costume you just got from me? Do you put it on and go WOW? or is the response a little more tepid? How do you feel about brown or bronze? Our feelings can be a great indicator of how we look. And remember that there are cool and warm in every colour, so just saying "Blue" is not necessarily a focused clue. Are the blues in your current wardrobe warm, cool or neutral? (Hint: blue jeans and the burgandy top in your photo would be considered a neutral as they have a lot of grey in them.)

    Good luck! And have fun!

I suggest staying away from terminology like "cool" or " warm" because they are arbitrary terms that can confuse rather than elucidate, esp. when you get into such things as "seasons", with which not everyone understands the frame of reference.

To me you appear to have predominantly pink/red undertones. To some that would be "cool", to others, that would be "warm" (see why it could get confusing?).

The tests described by Zummarad works. Also learn to trust your eye & your instincts, like what Tahira mentioned about how a color makes you feel.

    Thanks everyone!

As far as jewelry, I can more or less wear either. I have both gold and silver. I usually end up wearing more silver tone jewelry but I also own more of it.

As for the peach/purple thing I look pretty bad in both but the peach is more disgusting. Solid grape-y purple tends to make me look sallow.

I'm pretty much stuck in a teal/turquoise/dark blue kind of rut. I don't really wear a whole lot of red or black. I like brown and green, but I can't ever figure out a way to wear green and have it look good. I can do Fuchsia, but no pastels of any kind. White is alright, but not a great color for me.

As far as the "season" thing, I always thought I was a winter. I don't know if it's the picture or if my hair color has changed but I've always had very ashy hair.

Thanks again for the advice everyone.

Okay, if your hair is ashy and you don't look good in black or red, I would be more inclined to think you are either a spring or summer. Classic Winters (which I am) look amazing in black. Teals, turquoise, dark blue (I'll bet it's a navy as opposed to a blue black) are on the warmer side cool, if that makes sense. THe colours are less "pure." Summers tend to have ashy hair with no red tones and are considered to be cool. Springs also have little red in their colouring but with more yellow undertones and are therefore warm.

I'll see if I can get you a link to a colour website which might giv eyou some better ideas.

I'm wondering the following. Should people only wear the tones that are genuinely theirs - I mean for bellydancing?

On stage or in performance you have more make-up, artificial lights plus you're sparkling and moving - not a single portrait that one can study forever or like you're not really going to teach maths or hold a speach in parliament while wearing that costume.

I'd really try each time you like a costume or a colour if you can find a shade that's fitting for you, a combination with other colours or a bit of glossy or accentuated make-up and hairdo to offer more contrast for a lively costume colour.

You could wear cinnamon with red, orange and turquoise - you know, sneak it in. Maybe lime-yellow could be also nice?

I was going to say the exact same thing! I'm a "spring" (light, warm-base) and silver has just never looked right on me. On the other hand, I love gold! So if you tend to gravitate towards gold jewelry, you're most likely warm-toned and a "spring," since you're so fair, or if you like silver, you're more likely cool-toned and a "summer," which is light and cool-toned.

Now go have fun trying on all your jewelry!

I'm thinking Jewel Tones for you! Amethyst, Sapphire, Emerald! Creamy Ivories, not bright white, and maybe a lovely deep Rust, with golden accents.

Haha, I just saw Azhia's post - yes, I agree, and probably shouldn't use vague seasonal references, so I apologize for any confusion.

Wardrobes and costume colors can be a lot of trial and error, but if you just pay attention to what YOU feel prettiest in, I'd say stick with those colors! ;)

Re: Warm/Cool skin and color assistance please!

Interestingly enough, when I was studying costume design a million years ago, the Season colour chart thing was new and my professor actually liked it as a basic template. It has worked it's way into the common nomenclature, so many people do under stand the reference.

But more than that, I am going to agree that not everyone will understand warm / cool / spring / etc. Although I obviously use them, I forget that not everyone will get my point of reference.

Back to one of my original statements, look at your wardrobe, see if you can discern the commonalities aside from "Blue." Think about how you feel in a particular colour. Work from there.
