Thread: Any simple/quick costume ideas?

Hi ladies,
While on vacation, I have been invited by a friend to perform at a party. I do have a simple lapis tribal-esque belt with me (even though my favorite style is egyptian), but that's pretty much it. I could go out and get a few things from a Salvation Army store or something but wanted to just not spend a lot.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Any help would be appreciated.

Maybe try to find a cute halter/midriff top and a full skirt if you can. Maybe tie a pretty sarong around your hips as a scarf and another around your top as well. Sarongs and scarves are pretty cheap. You could probably find some really pretty ones at Target even. I've seen some flashy outlandish colors there.

You can often find fringe scarves at Target or at discount stores like Marshalls or Ross or TJ Max. Pair that with a Goodwill broomstick skirt or a pair of black pants and a cami. You can get stick on rhinestones to dress us the cami.

Never underestimate the power of scissors and safety pins! But be careful with those scissors...

Knit tops can be cut into tie tops, or just tucked up to make a short top. You can also pick up a long, stretchy skirt instead of a broomstick skirt if you have the right belt and top to go with it.

If I were in your place I'd do a "I'm so fabulous I just threw this hipbelt on over my outfit" and dance away. Do you have a simple, clingy dress or skirt/top set? Add your hip belt, and voila!

Anything else might look like you tried too hard to throw together an outfit at the last minute.

Ooooow! I like the idea of turning a top into a midriff top. You could pinch the front of it with a saftey pin and put a jewel there.

Skirt ideas were great too!

Also, if you have a long, summer weight dress... you could use the scarves to fancy it up and wrap around your hips. Kinda saidi style!

Oh yeah, get a cute, cheap pin or two at thrift store or target and use on the hip scarf or your top!

Is there a hippie store (Sunshine Daydream?) nearby? You can usually find full skirts there that would be full-length if pulled down to your hipline.

I find shiny scarves (fringed and/or sequinned) at those Oriental cheap-jewelry stores all the time. You could wear a long skirt with a scarf and your belt, tie & pin a second scarf (or two) over your bra to make a matching top, and wear one in your hair.

I'm thinking something along these lines, but with a glittery scarf instead of a coin scarf:
