What are you working on? August 2010
I'm a couple hours early but I'm so excited to start August off on the right foot. I finally finished this green costume after 6 months of work and 1 year of humming and haaaaing on what finishing touches it needed! (Thanks to Anya and Gitana for their advice.) Now that it's done, though I'm not sure I like it anymore. ..l;,
I haven't danced in it yet so maybe when I do I'll like it.

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
I'm so excited to be taking a dance class! The teacher asks her intermediate/advanced students if there are any "special requests" and mine is for her to "kick my butt."
I'm looking forward to a great month!

Oops! I just realized that this is the beauty and costuming forum, so this post really doesn't belong here!
Well, regarding beauty and costuming, I recently became the owner of a regular dress made from cool fabric, which I am going to take apart and make into a really cool costume! Now I just have to figure out exactly what to do with it! (the dress was a find at a thrift shop -- about $5 -- and it was a "give-away" at a workshop sponsored by a meet-up group in Orange County, CA to which I belong -- it was a wonderful afternoon!)

Well, I love that costume, Hala Jamal, and I hope you enjoy wearing it for the first time in performance!
Congratulations on a job well done!

Hala Jamal, I like your green costume! I maybe would put more of those lovely pink flowers on it...
I'm still working on my blue Sim (nearly finished) and the yellow Bella (armbands, belt and skirt nearly finished, bra is waiting...)
Love, Sahira.

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
I've been taking a bit of a break from production after busting my tail to get ready to vend at a festival earlier this summer. Since then I've been working to create listings in my etsy shop and then create my own stand-alone webstore which allows me to have more branded visuals, and to sell to my customers without paying extra fees. Still working on that but I'm beginning to mix back in some production. I'm working on a pink monster purse that I'm pretty excited about. I'll be cranking out a few more styles of book monster page protectors soon too.
Eshta, funny you should mention the Green Monster ..g.: I have actually been planning to begin bringing that costume with me to work again so I can bead on my lunch break. The bra is all but done and it's time to begin putting all the ruffles on the skirt.

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
I'm attempting to make my first bedleh. So far I've bought some fabric and sparkly accessories, cut up an old bra, and covered one cup relatively successfully. The plan is for it to be a springy lime green with silver and magenta details.
Depending on how it continues, I'll either have pictures to share of the progress... or you'll never hear about it again! I'll just say that it's really awesome in my head, but I dont' know if my newbie hands can pull it off!

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
Loving the Green costume!!
Wish I had the patience to sew. I will not go anywhere near a sewing machine but will jump at the opportunity to do tedious bead work.
You guys are really inspiring me into taking steps forward towards a sewing machine. ..g.:

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
Oops, I posted in July.
After a couple frustrating events, I distracted myself with taking a little bag and decorating it up for keys/cash. My costume is blue/silver/black and tribal:

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
..g.: Finished my wings costume! Happy faces everywhere! It's a group costume, and we'll each have different wings... With my blue, there will be red, gold, green and those amazing holographic silver ones from TheBellyDanceStore. Pardon my excitement, but it's the first costume I've ever designed, and my teacher loved it so much that she's inflicting it on the rest of the group! :D
And the SuperSpecialAmazing glittery godet, cuz you can't see it in the first picture...

:D Thankyou very muchly. Also, much credit to my mum, who made the actual costume, because I am still scared of the overlocker. I stitched everything else on though! :P

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
I've been reading a few Bhuz threads about beladi dresses and decided to try my hand this morning. I used a t-shirt as my pattern template ..l;,

I still have to draft the sleeve pattern but here you can see it cut out:

And here you can see it on (Edges aren't finished and sleeves missing. Also, the belt will have cream and brown fringe added over the gold).

I like to come up with simple costume projects for my students and this is perfect. I'll be drafting up a more official pattern than the t-shirt so that they'll have something to use in a beladi dress workshop ..g.:

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
rio - good idea with the t-shirt pattern. I use an old tight t-shirt I cut up as a pattern for u tops. Works every time!
and an old bodysuit I wore out from teaching for a catsuit pattern and an old sugar petals for a body stocking pattern and the list goes on and on.....
I don't have any what are you working on pictures to share yet but I am going to go pass out now after spending $300 on fabric downtown.

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
Nice! It looks easier than what I do for beledi dresses. I cut mine in a boxy/rectangle pattern and put it on inside out. I then pin it to fit me and sew where I pinned. That usually gives a good fit, but it's a LOT of extra work. I'll have to try the t-shirt thing for my next one.

Re: What are you working on? August 2010
I've just (mostly) finished an assuit bedlah. I have decided to add more rhinestones to it, but here is it so far. Sorry for the blurry pic - this is its first performance outing. It will get a bit more bling before the next one ..g.:
