Thread: How do you make a curly wired hem?

I have some fabric that just screams for a wired hem BUT I've never done one or even know what to do. Something to do with fishing line. I have lots of costume sewing experience (fussy fabrics) and patience. Not sure if I use a serger or sewing machine. Any advice or tips are much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like it can be done on a regular machine with a zig zag stich. I have 40 lb test fishing line here at home, but haven't tried it yet.

Thanks Shahla, I thinks its doable once I get fishing line- at least as an expirament. I'll hold off on my good fabric to begin with because, well, I've made that mistake before!

I've been chicken about it too. I have the wire and I even have a few skirts that I could "sacrifice" to the experiment, but just haven't done it.

Make sure you really secure the ends or the tension will push the fishing line right back out. Not fun removing all the sequins, picking out the stitches and do over. ,f::

Looks beautiful when it is done. Well worth the effort and not hard to do.
