Thread: Great Loop Vixens.......Quick Question

Hi!

LOVE this costume. I would like to buy a silver one, but I'm confused.

I have seen a more flat silver:

And what appears to be a more iridescent silver:

Are these the same? Is my vision failing me? I want to purchase the more iridescence silver.

Any advice you could give will be greatly appreciated!

I'm pretty sure you're noticing a lighting issue. My great loop has sparkly sequins (meaning that it's not all flat).

I agree. The Bellydancestore photos do not always show the costumes at their most fabulous and glamorous. My guess is that a high-end professional shoot for every single costume they get would be impractical and prohibitively expensive.

I think it is the lighting, too. There are lots of different finishes for sequins, but when you are talking about silver sequins, the most common choices are metallic and holographic, not matte, satin, silky, iris, or AB finishes (which would look varying degrees of gray, aluminum-ish, or pearly). You might be able to custom order a Great Loop in one of those more unusual finishes, but I think those two examples are both plain old metallic silver.

Holographic is the term I was looking for. Great loops come with holographic sequins. It also looks like Audrena did some photoediting to make the costume look shinier.

I recently ordered a gold great loop from bellydancestore.com and the sequins were holographic.

That being said, Pharaonics of Egypt has been known to spontaneously change sequins and fabric from time to time.

I think if you call bellydancestore and ask them to check the sequins before sending the costume they would gladly do that for you. And Andalee is correct -- the descriptor you are looking for is holographic.

Regardless of the materials, she definitely did enhance the picture, unless that costume is having some bizarre "2001: A Space Odyssey" moment where it's full of stars. I'd still guess the Belly Dance Store costume is metallic silver, but the Audrena one could be holographic sequins. The accent stones definitely have a prismatic effect, but the sequins seem to be bouncing mostly bluish or white reflections. For comparison, this Turkish costume is definitely holographic sequins, and it is reflecting a lot of different colors: Costume Silver 31. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Great Loop with either type, though.

The dancer in the silver great loop on Audrena's site is my first BD teacher, Romnea, She's the one I mentioned still looks fantastic in the "Too old for bedlah?" thread. Yes, that picture is photoshopped to death, but really, she looks just as amazing in person (just not quite that fuzzy, LOL!).

I think they are both silver as well and the same color, it is just the lighting.

Pharonics often sprinkles/mixes some iridescent sequins in with bright metallic, that is how my red one was. The effect is quite nice and makes the color look more 3 dimensional.

I have seen a great loop in white iridescent that was very pretty.

yheah, lighting. the large stones are giving that irredescent look in the second one, they are there on the BD store pic, but the lighting makes them blend into the background, since their facets are silver.
look at pictures of one in another color and you'll see where the large stones are clearly.

Someone went bananas with the glow effect in Photoshop on the photo on Audrena's website. But they should all look about the same in person. ;)

actually, the sequins on the greatloop are faceted.
