Thread: My new costume idea - What you think about it

Hello girls , this is my new proyect, a white/gold costume , made with sequins , rhinestones , and beaded. Tell me what you think about the model , what you put it or not, and what you think will improve it. thanks . ( This photo is an sketch , not the actual costume. The right breast is full cover of rhinestones and all the gold detail are sequins sew it, have gold fringe, and a pair of fishnet gloves , and have this turkish style that join the bra with the skirt.

I think it could be pretty. For me, the type of skirt that is a straight line across the hips like that is less flattering than one with some sort of angle or slight curve or V-shape. Perhaps the belt across the torso from the bra could connect a little farther over, closer to the hip area, and the skirt top could angle down slightly from there, echoing the diagonal line. Just a thought, based on my own costuming needs.

Let see if i get it, you said that the sequin line from bra and belt go more diagonal mean more long and conect almost in the side of the skirt

See this modification on the chest strap

I liked the first sketch with the strap going from the bra to the skirt. I would aim to get the strap all the way over to the opposite hip, in the drawing it ends a little off. I don't care for the fishnet gloves. I think with one bra cup in rhinestones and one in the sequins and the waist strap you have a lot going on already. The fishnets just don't have a reason to be there. What about a nude mesh with the sequin spiral design repeated on one sleeve and nude mesh with rhinestone sparkles on the other--to mirror the bra design?

I loved the first photo, the only thing I would do is add some tassels to the gold sequin cup, because it looks a little 'flat' to me.

I'm on a blackberry so the pics are small, might look different on my PC.

i'd like it if the silvery rhine-stones from the one cup appeared in other places on the costume to balance it out.

I agree! Love the 1st photo & like the idea of tassels (perhaps along the top edge only?) of the gold sequin cup. Good Design Idea--Brava! :)

I've check all your comments know, so let see if i get it, cause my english is not so good, the first idea with the band across the chest, take out the fisnet, I added the rhinestone to the skirt, and could you tell me what tassel is i dont know. And to nayastrance you mean that the strap starts on the bra and go for my back and end in the hip?

Here is my suggestion. First, rather than have a line straight across where the mesh meets the opaque skirt material, have that boundary follow the lines of the beadwork. Use the beadwork to maintain modesty as needed here and there :-)

Second, this is just my own preferences, but I don't care for asymmetrical bra designs on most bodies. They look good on tall slender figures but on me at least (short, medium build, short torso) they look busy and cluttered.

I would say the first picture, or the last one that ssipes made :)

Yes, you'd want to either use a mesh that is close to your skin tone, or a white mesh that is obviously matching the dress, not your skin.

Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only person who feels this way. I see so many of these, and most of the time, they are enough to make what would be an incredible costume into something unappealing to me. I know this is primarily a matter of personal taste, but it's good to know that someone else has the same taste I do in this. :)

I guess I would have to agree that the sketch with the symmetrical bra cups is more appealing to me than the assymetrical one. Also, I agree with the comment about the fishnet gauntlets, I don't think they are the best choice, they clash a bit with the rest of the costume rather than complement it.

hello , girls i updated this second sketch design , what you think about it. thanks for all your opinions but, i guess i will go for the assymetrical , i already have bra that way , and really fit me. In the first i took out the fishnet golves , and will use a body mesh. And now i will go to put this on judgement. bye bye :)

I totally agree with Dunyah (no surprise, heh?); Sedonia's modifications without the mesh gloves would be lovely.

To me, the last design with the brown instead of white looks very busy, I do not like that it has waaaay too much going on.

I agree, the fishnet gloves don't make sense unless you make the chiffon skirt inserts out of fishnet also.

The brown one is neat, but I don't like the harsh "V" that hangs off the bra.

The brown one, to me, is a step back from the original design. It's very, very busy, almost to the point of looking like a fancy "crazy quilt." I'd be more likely to keep it the same as in the original design, but perhaps add some rhinestones to the sequined bra cup, and some sequins to the rhinestoned bra cup, so that they will be asymmetrical but balanced. I'd also take the fringe off the rhinestoned bra cup, since really unbalanced fringe creates an appearance of unbalanced movement, IMO. And I'd make the gauntlets out of the same material used to cover the bra and make the skirt.

I prefer the white one to the brown, I think if you are going to have an assymetrical bra you need to echo it somehow in the skirt... here's a quick pic of the changes I would make....
