Rouching in costumes. How too?
I need help. I want to put it along the top of my bra for extra modesty but I'm having a hard time. Is there a way to explain it without being confusing???

Hmm, not sure if this THE way to do it, but I've had success cutting my fabric about 1.5 or 2 x as wide as I want the finished product, then running a gathering stitch on both ends and adjusting until the gathers are even. Then very carefully tack down the rouching at various intervals to maintain the effect.

It is like a long basting stitch only you do two rows about half an inch apart. Leave strings at both ends. Knot one end, pull to gather from the other. If you are ruching a really long piece, you could also do gathering stitches somewhere in the middle of the piece of fabric as well. For gathering the stitches would be horizontal. For ruching they would be up and down.

Don't know if this can help but on the "What are you working on" of last June, there are a few pics on my post #108.
I make straight line with the machine leaving long thread. Then I pull gently on one of them (there are 2 of course) and work the ruching with my figers.
See pics:

You can use silk pins or dressmakers pins and pin the fabric to the base and runch it and gather it and shape it as you pin it (you use a zillion pins basically) and then use a super fine needle to take tiny stitches and remove the pins as you go. I have a photo somewhere buried on my computer of a project I did and the process. If I can find it I'll post it.

I posted a thread about this too, but I cannot find it to save my life! (gathered, pleated, runched keywords)
