When sewing on flat back swarvoski crystals...

    should I use:

    Heavy duty thread?

    Fishing line?

    Coated flexible beading wire?

    Or other suggestions?

I have no idea what direction I should go in......c::

    Thanks!

    I use heavy duty thread.

Over the years I've also had good luck with dental floss.

There are times though when you don't want thread to show; in that case you can use invisible thread but it isn't as strong as the heavy duty thread or the dental floss.

If you want to hide the thread you can bead it with little sparkly seed beads. I often do that but then I'm obsessive. I mean who is gonna see a strand of thread but I worry about these things:)

I've always used heavy duty thread without a problem - to make the threads "invisible", just choose a color that matches the fabric!

I also use heavy duty thread. I prefer carpet thread. Waxed dental floss is good too (the white, not the green haha)

I went into a ballroom dress supplier the other day for sparkles, and upon closer inspection, I noticed that they had glued little swarovskis OVER the hole where the thread goes! They literally have sparkles on their sparkles!

    I was astonded.

Anyway, myself, I use upholstery thread, or regular cotton doubled over.

I wouldn't use wire. They sell clear beading thread, and you could use that if colored thread is a problem for your design.

Is regular cotton ok to use? Cant seem to get any other thread in the color I need :S Im afraid it will "fray" or whatever it is called :p That it wount be strong enough to handle wear from the beads. Sorry for my terrible english :S

Did you look for button/"buttonhole twist" or carpet thread? Those usually come in a variety of colors and they are sturdier than regular sewing thread.

I actually hadn't really looked at anything yet. I wanted to find out what most people have successfully used before trying to find something.

Is carpet thread by the rest of the threads?

Well, I'm a bit OCD myself, so I tie probably a few more knots than need be at the end of my thread, and when it's doubled over and stichted through each hole a few times, I've never had any issues. I also glue them on first, if it's a big one, for extra security. :)

Botton hole or quilting thread. And I sometimes use small beads over the holes. It makes a cleaner finish and seems to be less breakage.

I use carpet, button hole upholstery thread and size 12/0 quilting needle. Works for me. A thimble is also a good idea, we don't want blood drops on the sparklies

I always used button/carpet thread in a color to match the base. I know someone who uses fishing line but I would always get the line tangled up.
