Thread: slave bracelets - picture attached

I bought a gorgeous little bollywood type slave bracelet today. I was wondering, are they usually worn as pairs, or one as an accent? Which would be better, or is it 'personal choice"? I am contemplating going back for the second one...

I would have bought the second had I not gone in and found my other store that had the cool saris, etc., is shutting down and moving shop elsewhere, and I had loaded up on a few *cough* necessities before I got to the other store where I found the bracelet.....l;,.

What exactly *is* a slave bracelet?

Oh yes, I have one of those. I think they probably have another name.

They are also called handflowers.

Most of the time I've seen ladies wear only one, I prefer two.
I think its personal choice.

Slave bracelet is what I first heard them called. Not a very nice name...

I'd only ever heard it called a slave bracelet... I think it's really personal choice, as to whether you wear it alone or as a pair..

Having said that, I'm not sure I've ever seen them worn as a pair, so...... That probably wasn't the most helpful post. :S

Personal choice. I have a gorgeous Sarovski (sp) crystal one that I usually wear and an equally sparkly but regular bracelet on the other wrist.

I agree, that "slave bracelet" is an unfortunate name. If internet lore is to be trusted ( a big "IF", I know ..l;,), these types of bracelets arose from slavers who made these bracelets out of the coins they were paid, for both adornment and as a portable bank.

I have also heard that they are called slave bracelets because the ring is "the slave" to the bracelet part. As awkward as the name is, I think it's the most generally accepted term for the these jewelry pieces in the US.

i've never heard them called anything but hand flowers (and always wondered why there was nothing floral about them ^_~)
