Inspiration or fugly?
Check out this new sculpture collection featured on Tom and Lorenzo's Blog.

I personally think they are fugly, and I'm not digging the woo-woo writing either. What do you think?

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
What do I think? I wish I had had the idea to dump a bottle of fabric stiffener on a bra, glue half of the clearance aisle at Michael's onto it, and call it art. By all means, don't miss her web site Laura's Aura - Art by Laura Jacobs. Glass, bronze, furniture, master works, wallflowers. She also works in the mediums of underpants, furniture, and shoes.
Sorry, too subversive for my pedestrian taste!

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
Considering what's been coming out of Cairo on dancers these days, I would not at all be surprised to see Dina rocking this bad boy

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
As art work, I find it interesting. I don't like it, but it interests me in all it's ugliness. As a costume designer, it gives me no inspiration.

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
There is such thing as bad art. Just because it's avante garde and different and goes against the grain of the likes of actual art doesn't make it awesome.

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
I am not into the avant-guard (spell?) costuming, but knowing the way I like dragon flies... I do like the first one, but no too crazy about the other bras. IMO

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
I do like the crackly, iridescent effect on some of the bras. There are a few that are cute and clever, but nothing new as far as costuming goes.

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
I like some of the flower ones, but they remind me of other belly dance costumes I have seen. In the right venue, etc., I think they would go over well. As Art, not that impressed.

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
As an artist myself, all I can say is....Uh, what an imagination. I would never however, put something like that in my house or any other place, except maybe the basement, in a box, in a corner, out of sight. Yuck!

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
Back in the artschool days I made a few torso/chest/wearable scultptures. I am familiar with her work and I quite enjoy it on a non-fashion level.

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
If you were to replicate some of them as costumes, they'd be really nice. As sculptures, i actually quite like them.. Some of them aren't to my taste, but I don't think they're hideous.

I mean, if it were actually a bra, I'd wear this...

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
On second thoughts, I'd get rid of the rose, of get one that matches in terms of colour. :/

I like some, I don't like some. I tend to go more for those with the tempered glass. Love the shoes, though!

Re: Inspiration or fugly?
I personally wouldn't find inspiration for a costume in her sculptures, but the idea behind it is thought provoking and has a touch of genius...
