The Sultra curling iron! I loves it.

Just wanted to rave about my new curling iron I just got in the mail from Sephora! It's called the Bombshell by Sultra:
Sephora: Sultra The Bombshell 1": Blow Dryers & Irons

I LOVE this thing!!! I am a complete hair idiot when it comes to curling my hair. I usually use hot rollers to try to achieve a cute, bouncy 'do, but even with the rollers and tons of hairspray, my hair falls flat within the hour. Even when my stylist curls it after cutting it, it falls flat! I thought it was hopeless.

    Enter: Bombshell

HELLO PRETTY HAIR! It doesn't have a clip, so it takes a little getting used to, but on the first go I had a head full of gorgeous curls that lasted for 2 days, and it took half the time of a regular iron! I never knew how long to hold a regular iron on my hair (I really don't know how to walk the line between frying my hair and taking the heat away before the curl can set), but with the Bombshell, I just wrap, hold for a second while wearing the pink glove, pull the rod out, let it cool for a couple more seconds, and release. I'm a believer!

I think the Bombshell isn't necessary for people who are totally comfy and get good results with a regular curling iron, but for people like me with 5 thumbs and fall-flat hair, it's a dream. The only cons are its price (very pricey), the fact that you have to order it (I was told that Sephora doesn't carry it in stores), and it looks a little like an archaic vibrator ..l;,

    I freaking need that!!!

I've got flat, straight hair too and very little time, so this would be perfect. Now to find a job so that I can both pay rent and buy one of these babies...

SNAP! I've bought a clipless curling iron too (18") by a UK company - Corioliss.

They wanted too much money in the shops so I found one on ebay and am just waiting for it to arrive (should be here by Thursday). I'm so glad to hear you are happy with yours. I'll probably only use mine sparingly as, even with product, these things are harsh on your hair.

why do you think the curl holds longer?

I'm intrigued. This could work well for girls with really long hair (like myelf). Standard irons are limiting because of the clip.

And price does not throw me off from a good hair product. My GHD flat iron cost me $200 and it's totally worth it.

I miss those roller steamer curling things...I think they were early 90's or so?

I'm glad you found something that works so well for you!

I read this before I went to bed and DREAMED of a curling iron that put curls in my hair that lasted for days (as opposed to seconds). I would not want to spend that kind of money without knowing for sure it worked for me, would want to try it out first.

You can get a similar effect by using a regular curling iron and ignoring the clip -- just use small sections, keep the clip closed, and wrap your hair around both the clip and the barrel. This trick works great for long hair. The higher heat of the ceramic iron is supposed to be what makes the curl last longer, though.

Sephora has a generally awesome return policy. I'd double-check to see if it applied to the curling irons but it very well may.

I think you're talkin' about the Caruso Molecular Hairsetter? I had one, LOVED it and then lost the base in my move from California to Illinois!!! :(

Re: The Sultra curling iron! I loves it.

I tried the Caruso steam rollers, and my hair still fell flat (even after leaving them in for 2 hours)! Then the gel core rollers. Same result. I think the Bombshell curl holds so well because the heat is so high (is 360 F high?), but I only hold it in my hair for a second or two. The super hold could also be because it's ceramic (and everything ceramic is pricey). Still, I'll be using it sparingly as well....just for special occasions! I don't want to get addicted to it and fry my hair!

I'm wondering how much damage this will do to hair if used on a weekly basis. You'll have to let us know!

Thanks. I do have a birthday coming up, I may look into that. I have never mastered holding a curl, and I say I wanted curly hair so much that it gave my little girl curls.

I like this type of curling iron too...no dents!
I don't use any curling iron, at all. I prefer the vintage way of styling hair. I apply setting lotion (available at Sallys) to 1 inch sections of hair, curl each section under with foam curlers then go to sleep. when I take the curlers out in the morning, I brush out my hair into a lovely 40's/50s style. The BEST part is, I will have curls for about 3 -4 days or until I wash my hair.
Absolutely nothing else will keep a curl in my baby fine hair, not even gel or hair spray. The best part is--NO damage! Yay!

I have friends that do this and their hair looks great!

Unfortunately for me, I'm a morning showerer and can't do night setting.

I've slept in rollers but have never used setting lotion. I thought it was about the same as a hair gel. I will have to try it out.

I do funky twists in my hair and go to bed looking like an alien and the next day have fabulous curls but I'm keen to have the clipless curler as it is a different type of curl again - a real 'done' type of a look to it.

I use Proclaim Super Setting Lotion, its works beautifully and keeps your hair soft and curly, and the stuff doesn't smell all that bad either. Its also inexpensive and lasts a long time. I use a small spray bottle and put half water and half setting lotion. Your hair should be dry when you start or at least damp. but not wet. then I separate my hair into "parts" . A back section, side sections, and a top section, using a hair clip to hold each section. Then take a rattail comb and separate those sections into about 1 inch or so of hair, then place an end wrap paper on the end of the section of hair your holding (the section you just sprayed with setting lotion) and roll under with a foam roller all the way to the scalp or very close to it. After you've rolled all your sections, you can sleep in your curlers but you'll need a satin or slippery pillowcase so your hair won't get pulled while your sleeping. If you don't want to sleep in curlers, you can do this routine early in the morning, but let the hair dry at least 9 to 10 hours before you unroll the curlers or you'll have wet hair that will fall limp.

This is the setting lotion; Proclaim - Proclaim Super Setting Lotion
And these are the end papersSally - Sally Jumbo Dispense-A-Wrap and End Wraps
And foam rollers if you need themSalon Care - Foam Rollers

If you decide to try this and you're at the part where its time to brush out your hair, you'll see after taking all the rollers out you'll have poodle hair. But don't fret! Just use a paddle brush and keep brushing the hairs to tame them. They will automatically smooth out with the brushing. You can also "coax" the hair to curl under brushing from the underside of the hair.

If anyone needs help, please feel free to respond here or pm me.

Sooo beautiful, Shirin! Gorgeously Golden Age. :)

I just want to add that your method also works very well for those who want a more poodley look. (I'm a curly girl at heart.) After removing the rollers, finger-comb instead of brushing to get separated curls instead of smooth rolls.

Thanks ladies. If you get the chance to post a photo when your done, I'd love to see the results.
Oh Suzana, your right, you can just finger comb the curls, most often it looks lovely. Sometimes though, if the curl is too tight or too small it gets really difficult to finger comb, which is where that paddle brush comes really handy. :-)

I'm a huge fan of sock curls and sock waves myself :) Totally going to try setting lotion with them to see what happens! My hair is naturally curly so foam rollers yield frizzy Afro-puff craziness for me :( Sock curls seem to work better. Yay for hair 'nerds'!
