My sister was obsessed with losing her tan for her wedding. She was already doing VIP's and wasn't getting the results she wanted, so decided to add Photofacials to her Laser Tattoo removal. She had 2 or 3 treatments and was very satisfied. Now, the company she went to - Dr. Tattoff - uses ND:Yag with a QSwitch, which while good, requires several treatments. depending on your timeline, and the depths of your wallet, this could take a while. The main benefit besides cosmetic, in my book, is the fact that it stimulates collagen and elastin growth.

And yes, this is something which I am looking into. I want to do more to loose my current tan before doing so. Make the process a little easier on every one!
