Best way to line a bra?
Hi Gang - I just got a costume I'm nuts about and the bra has no lining. I'm pretty crafty and can fake my way through some repairs, but I've never done this before. Any recommendations on fabric choices, and the best way to approach cutting/fitting?

Re: Best way to line a bra?
I just use whatever cotton is laying around. Old sheets, t-shirts whatever. I lay the bra out on the fabric and cut maybe an inch to an inch and a half border around the bra band, then cut a ton extra around the cups. I do it in two halves.
Tuck the ends under the lining and baste the edges. I do the bottom first, then the top, darting as necessary.
it really isn't as involved as it seems written out.

Re: Best way to line a bra?
And I am sure the pro-costume makers have a better/more exact way to go about this, but through trial and error, it is what I have come up with.

Thanks Nyla! That's great - I usually fly by the seat of my pants anyway, good to know it can be that simple and practical.

..and if I mis-measure....just add a patch :) If anyone is looking at the inside of your bra during your performance there are some serious other problems going on there!

Re: Best way to line a bra?
I tend to use tee shirt material, although I have been known to use silk or sari fabric if I happen to have them around. Tee shirts are easy. The curve of the sleeve is easy to adapt to the curve of the bra. If you are like me and wear a D, you will have to put a stitch through the apex of the cup! This helps to keep the lining anchored. But that shouldn't be a big deal. If the cups aren't heavily beaded, just try for some place that is.

I second the stitch in the centre, I just do one and tie it off, then it stops the 'drum' thing happening. I also use the same method as Nyla, and usually an old t-shirt, or cotton jersey fabric..

I use t-shirts to line my cups. This is a photo of the finished product.
If you need written directions, check out my blog and scroll down to the lining directions.
