Thread: V Belt help : )

I know...I know they aren't popular right now....but I want to make one anyway!!!!

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and am looking for a project to keep my occupied. I took a belt a friend made (fit me well but a bit big) as a one piece and I made it into a two piece. It was a bit big for me pre-preggo so I though I'd need two pieces for better adjustment. I was around a 36" upper hip before so.......

How do I know if the pieces are the right size width wise? If you are a 36" upper hip what would the front piece measurement be and what would be the back for the best fit/proportion?

Right now both of them are the same size and I cut them a tad bigger than they would have been as a solid one piece belt.

I'll try to get some photos up tomorrow to clarify but in the meantime any tips or experiences shared making a one piece into a two piece would help me not make a mess of things ..g.:

I found one old photo which sorta shows the shape...I had borrowed the costume and the skirt was way to short so I was trying to hide it with the veil. This was my FIRST photo shoot ever so I do look like a dork.

Hmm, the two piece belts I've had that were V shaped in both the front and the back were two equally sized pieces. The ones that are cupped in the back and V shaped in the front have all had longer back pieces.
I have one velvet V-shaped belt that laces up both sides, so it can be taken in or let out easily. I think this would be ideal for a body that will be doing a lot of changing (congrats!).

khalima - Thanks! Your photo's helped me clarify things.

So below is the belt my friend made in green and the two white pieces are my cutouts for a new style that will be more adjustable for me. I made them a tad longer than the other belt because they will need to overlap on sides not just one.
