What's your favorite fabric and style for skirts?

I have a gorgeous bedlah I'm about to finish altering, and am dreaming up what skirt to pair with it. The bedlah is silver, vintage fabric with tons of sequins, beads, and pearls--totally vintage glam. I'm planning a hot pink skirt but can't decide on the style and fabric. Pretty much anything would go with it.

I like the lightweight flow of chiffon but want it to be more opaque. Satin tends to get heavy unless it's a simply straight skirt. Maybe silk? Or a lycra blend? I'm leaning toward a trumpet or mermaid style, but think something fuller would be great with this bedlah, too. Yet I can't do a true circle skirt, as I'm tiny and can't live up to so much fullness. I have to have a placket on top or just a slimmer profile entirely.

What are your favorite style and fabric combinations for skirts? Strangely, I have very few skirts in my bellydance trousseau.

I don't know if it's "appropriate" to use, but it was seriously the only thing that I could find in a very particular color to help with costume alterations...

Rayon/Spandex Knit-MANY COLORS*: fashion apparel fabric*: apparel fabric*: fabric*: Shop | Joann.com

I LOVE this stuff!!! It feels like t-shirt material (maybe that's what it really is - I'm not very knowledgeable about sewing). ;)

It was pretty easy to work with. I made a trumpet skirt (using another trumpet skirt that I had as a pattern), a u-top crop top, and a pair of boy shorts that I connected to the skirt. It's beyond comfy, and most importantly (for me), doesn't make me feel over-heated like lots of other fabrics do.

For trumpet skirts I prefer velvet. It looks luxurious and feels super soft and comfy.

A lightweight silk charmeuse is lovely -- like satin, only more delicate and softly flowing. You could do 1/2 circle in back and 1/4 circle in front (old school).

Burnout velvet circle skirts are my favourite for a balance between flow and texture. You just have to properly assess how sheer they can be and wear either a solid layer (shiny looks cool) or pants underneath.
