Blinging out shoes
Hi all, I am thinking about investing in a pair of nude/tan character or ballroom shoes and blinging them out with crystals. Has anyone done this before? Pix? Or any suggestions on the best sources (online) for the right kind of crystals & adhesive for a project like this. Thanks Bhuzzers!

Re: Blinging out shoes
I knew a dancer who totally blinged out her shoes with rhinestones - they were completely covered. Looked awesome.

Re: Blinging out shoes
I actually painted my ballroom shoes with glitter paint from the craft store. I have to touch it up occasionally, but it looks great and you can't beat $1.50 bling.

So here they are in low light so you can see their sparkle!

And in daylight.

Oh, and photo credit to my cutie-pie daughter, India Evans, who is learning to shoot manual and DSLR. I love it!!Last edited by auraevans; 09-14-2010 at 06:34 PM.

Re: Blinging out shoes
There are several ways to do it but this is how I did it:
Use a toothpick and JudyKins Diamond Glaze (it is a clear acrylic medium) costs maybe $10 bucks. You can actually embed things within the Diamond Glaze also and it dries to a hard crystal clear glass like coating. I made Dorothy Ruby Slippers with this also and they are amazing. If I can find a pic I'll post it.
Dip the toothpick in the glaze and apply to back of stone and place it on the shoe. Tweezers help to place the stones.
It will take a few hours to make a pair of shoes but it is worth it. I probably have $50 in stones on these shoes. I used different sizes on the different parts of the shoes to add dimension. I used shoes that were a nude color leather as the base.

Re: Blinging out shoes
The Dorothy shoes have the red glitter suspended within the crystal diamond glaze medium.
It is very easy to make them and fast.
Basically, paint the diamond glaze on the shoe, pour the glitter all over the shoe and repaint the shoe with the diamond glaze as a top coat and it dries in a crystal clear glass-like coating.
I am a huge fan of this product!

Re: Blinging out shoes
FYI, the glaze will stiffen your shoe quite a bit, especially with the glitter method.

Re: Blinging out shoes
Thanks! It is very fun. I learned about Diamond Glaze in paper arts class, and I realized it could be used for so much more.
I am wanting to make another pair of shoes with a higher heel and crystal AB. I think I will and I will make a tutorial with photos when I make them. My other shoes are clear crystals. My favorite dance shoe is the Capezio open toe footlight. I think I need to bling those in my fave crystal AB.

Re: Blinging out shoes
Here's a tip on blinging out your shoes - I'm sure the same method would work with ballroom shoes. My friend does something similar:

Re: Blinging out shoes
Okay, Aura you may have created a monster! ..l;, A few weekends ago my friends decorated my bike in rainbow striped crepe paper for a bike parade. I fell in love with the gaudy thing and have been trying to decide how to permanently wrap it in rainbows ..g.: I'd been considering wrapping it in tape kind of like you would a hula hoop but water can be an issue with most of those tape options (as far as I know). This diamond glaze is permanent when dry and I could totally do a GLITTER rainbow bike!! Mwahahahahah! ..g.:

I don't know how many of you get the Dream Time Creations newsletter, but the weekly winner covered some high heels in ruby crystals and they are seriously drool worthy! Here's a link to the little article about the artist Rhinestones, Swarovski Rhinestones, Crystal Beads & Trims | Dreamtime Creations
And here's the shoes!
