Best belt style to "hide" my belly pouch?
I value your opinions and was wondering if you had any ideas about the best style belt to camoflauge the little overhanging belly pouch ( reminders that I bore 3 children). I wear my belt right below my belly button and it looks fine, but I would love to show off my curves if it wasn't for the "awning". Ideas?

If it's mostly loose skin that overhangs, you can tape it down. Use waterproof first aid tape and just wrap it around below your beltline, all the way around your hips like a narrow low belt.
You can also try a body stocking.
A belt with a little riser in front and a waist strap will also hide that lower belly skin.

The most important style of belt to buy is one that fits properly. Unless you want to get into wearing Power Mesh stomach covers, you can only do so much about the tautness of your abdomen. What you can control is whether your clothes are too tight and dig into your flesh, exaggerating a muffin top.
To me, the deciding factor is how you "hang." Sometimes dancers who have more of a high, frontal pooch wear the Turkish V style that dips in the front and skirts the area in question. If your trouble spot is more of a doughnut across the front, this may not be as helpful. Regardless of the style, scooting the belt a little higher or lower may make a big difference in how it sits. Some dancers recommend against getting the straight-across Egyptian belts, particularly the less expensive ones, which can look a bit like an old-fashioned hernia belt rendered in sequins. Having any sort of shaping or contours to the belt usually makes for a better silhouette on less-than-perfect figures.

Just what Lauren said. A belt with an attached waist strap can really hide a little pouch. Something like this Abla style:
Avoid anything with a V shape at the top front. The V will just serve to gather your pudge, pile it up and thrust it forward into a most unattractive manner. I like straight accross belts that are fitted correctly.

Lauren- LOL--will have to try the tape idea--it is just excess skin. I am afraid that a belt that rises in the middle will pop out and only be a visionary finger point to the (ahem) perching pouch.
Tourbeau & Shahla--the v really does accentuate my investment!!Yikes..
Would love to try the waistband. I am tall and could really make it work, but I'm worried that it won't be long enough because of my height in my body. But that does seem like a great way to elude the problem area.

For belly dangle, I actually like belts with a bit of dip in the front. If I get the right style, the dip will follow the curve of my belly. Even though it's hanging out, it actually looks better this way, to me anyway. Also belly covers are wonderful!

I think the great loops style works because really it's straight accross the top with just the tiniest dip in it. I like that style too. It's flattering on everyone I've ever seen in one.

Ditto on the V front style. I didn't like my turkish set at all.
When I asked around, I was told that an Egyptian belt would make me look wider across the hip/tummy. WRONG! My fav set (that I had to sell) was flat across the front, with the butt cup in back. It was so nice. The cups were just not big enough. *sigh*
But when I buy a set again... it'll be a style like the Great Loop or Generic Egyptian styling.

Along the same lines, does anyone know of any patterns to make something similar to Great Loop? I like to sew my own things, and I'd love to hide my belly pouch too (mine also brought 3 kids into the world).
