Anyone have/seen/made an A-line skirt with side gores/godets?
I'm wanting a skirt with a slim line, but still enough fullness for movement. Circle skirts are too much. Has anyone seen/had/made an A-line with one gore or godet on each side? I'm thinking that might give the nice line, while allowing the fullness.

I helped my friend pick out fabric for and put together an 8-panel trumpet skirt with godets from a pattern her mom made for her and it turned out beautifully. It actually didn't take her that long to stitch it up. She made it in a couple of hours. It has godets all the way around (6 I think).
It's snug and very figure-flattering and flares out from the knee down. The fabric I picked out that she used for this particular skirt was white stretch crush velvet and it looked so good.
I traced the pattern. I haven't made my own yet but hers is simply gorgeous.Last edited by saheli; 09-16-2010 at 09:51 AM.

Stretch velvets are nice, aren't they?
I'm just finishing up a mermaid skirt with...something like 6 panels and 8 godets. It's nice, and I'll definitely make more of them. The skirt I have in mind is different though, less fullness front and back, and an allover slimmer line.

I have one done like that... while it looks good, I'm not really happy with it. A true A line skirt (I believe) is cut on the bias which gives it that awesome flare (think Sahar's). The A line I have is basically a straight skirt with godets on the sides, so it doesn't move the same way.

An A-line with one big godet in the back would be pretty too. Wish I had pics of each way, as I'm just picturing them in my head.

I made a straight skirt with a large fishtail godet in the back for a friend. It turned out beautifully. The godet inserted nicely into the seam in the back. I'll look when I get home and see if I can find some photos of it.
It made the skirt less full in front, but full in back and moved nicely.

This one appears to have the large godet in the back. I can't tell if it has smaller ones in the front as well, but I'm guessing it does.

The Jamila skirt at the Belly Dance Store is a slightly different style, with a flatter front and a slit.

Thanks for those pics, Tourbeau. That first one has a very glamorous look. From what I can see, it looks to me like a straight skirt with two teeny godets in the front, then an extremely wide gore in the back, placed just below the curve of the tush.
