    Open Back belly cover

Hi everyone. I'm curious if you can help me find this. I don't have a photo to show you, but I know I have seen dancers wearing bellycovers that are open in the back. In fact awhile back someone posted a video of a dancer performing and she was wearing one. Where do I find one of these?

Sounds interesting. I haven't seen any myself, but would be interested to see.

    Re: Open Back belly cover

I saw a dancer in Egypt wearing one of these, but sadly have no photo. It basically was a piece of mesh of some sort attached to the front bra that went down under the front of her skirt. Don't know if it was attached to some sort of bottom or just attached to the skirt. Her back was entirely uncovered, just the belly was covered at the front, if this makes sense. It didn't appear to be shaped particularly. Sorry I can't be more precise but it was a long time ago and she was just a local dancer in a local hotel show so her costume wasn't of the best quality, although good enough.

Thinking about this, I'm sure some of the golden age dancers wore them too. Perhaps someone will come up with a picture.

Don't know the answer but here's a little help with the visual. I've seen several vids of Tanyeli wearing backless belly covers so I thought of her right away. I LOVE the look!

It looks like she could be wearing a bodysuit with one leg cut off. Leg Avenue makes nice bodysuits in lace, fishnet, and mesh but they're not very supportive. Not a work safe website!

Leg Avenue Lingerie - Wholesaler of Costumes, Shoes, Lingerie, Hoisery, Skinny Dip Swimwear - Leg Avenue Inc

If you click 'lingerie' you can then click on 'bodystockings,' you'll see quite a few styles. The one that I think is nice is the lace one with the hourglass shaped front.

Their accessories are fun too (arm warmers) and would lend themselves to fusion costuming. : ) I'll keep looking online for more, something about 'under the leotard wear' keeps niggling in the back of my mind. Hope this helps!

Rosette, YES! That's the dancer I couldn't think of her name. Here's another video of her wearing these type of belly covers. I want them!

After seeing the second video I think it would be very easy to make one. Create a pattern from a piece of appropriately sized paper to the desired shape and size you want your cover to be then lay it on top of your fabric and cut out. Turn the side edges of your cover, bead, decorate, basically prettify and to attach it to your bra, sew small hooks to the front of your bra and carefully hook through the mesh. I assume you could do the same for the bottom to connect it to your belt but if it were me I'd use Velcro.

    Thanks for posting your question!

That's what I was thinking too.
