    Hot-fix tool for Sparklies?

So I was perusing the bling aisle at my local craft store and found some gorgeous stones. They "Hot-fix". What's "hot-fix", I ask? Apparently some other means of securing rhinestones on to a garment.

Has any one ever used these? Do they work well?

    Hi AllysiLuma,

I haven't tried them myself; but you can find some info from past threads.
Look down at the bottom of this page, and you'll see links to them.
    :-)

The green glue sticks way way better than the silver glue.
Over time some of the gems have come off, but on the whole it's a quick, fun, cheap way to bling up your gear. It's not suitable for glamming up a pro-level costume, but maybe for making personalised t-shirts etc it's great.

But why not? Do the gems just fall off left and right? I thought this what some were using to bling up plain Sahars, was that not successful?

I have seen a lot of these on pro level costumes actually. I guess if they come off at least they are not difficult to replace.

Some of the gems come off in the wash. Washing machines are the worst thing for them, because the garment gets pounded pretty vigourously. But I'm guessing you aren't going to put your Sahar in the washing machine!

But yes, they do sometimes just fall off. Particularly if the gem has the silver glue backing, which as I said is not as strong. Also, the glue just doesn't seem to stick as well on nylon lycra as it does cotton. I think the nylon fibres aren't so absorbent so the glue doesn't seep into the fibres to make a strong bond (but I'm no scientist).

I don't use a hot fix tool but I take a cheap straightening iron, lay the stones on the iron crystal-side down, wait for the glue to melt, and use a pair of tweezers to set them on the fabric. Works great!

I wish! No, I don't own one, and quite likely never will. I seem to remember one of the big Sahar fans (maybe Damiena or Samira S?) wearing a nude one they had added hundreds of hot fix stones to, so beautiful but can't find the thread now. I adored that gorgeous photo, but can't find it now to see if there was an update about the stones.
