Invisible super-undies??
Well.. I kinda love the cutouts on belts/skirts, but where the H*** does the undies go?? Is there some sort of invisible undies that doesnt show from the sides?? And where do one buy them?
I could never imagine dancin in something less then hotpants/boxer undies. And the only undies I know about with only a thread on the side, is a thong. Do you girls dance in that?
Or maybe the costumes are lined in a nude fabric?
Guess Im the only one that wonders about this, but I still do :D
Please help me out of my ignorance :D

Re: Invisible super-undies??
I wear boy shorts that match my skin tone. They're the microfiber ones made to eliminate panty lines. So people are seeing fabric, but can't tell the difference.

What Leyla said. Also, it is possible to buy string bikini's that aren't thongs.

I went...gasp...commando...a couple of times, and the world did not come to an end. Quite...errrr...liberating, not worrying about the panty boundries.

Re: Invisible super-undies??
You're brave. I have too long a history of falling down in public to skip the undies unless absolutely necessary!
Leyla and Andalee's solution works for me. "Barely There" is a good brand to try.

Re: Invisible super-undies??
i have a rings of desire costume that i made undies specially for. and by "made" i mean i bought hipster cut panties from the gap, cut the side front with my surger and put 3 strips of clear elastic in it's place. ^_^
i wore it to an outdoor festival last weekend, and when i spun into the breeze (which came outta nowhere) i was really happy i'd gone with white-to-match instead of flesh toned, i was able to grab my skirt and pull it back into place but the folks on the extreme angle might have seen the undies, and that's enough for me to say it was worth it to have made them special instead of going with a flesh toned string-something

Re: Invisible super-undies??
Skin tone boyshorts have been my answer to this. Although I've got one costume that even those show (tan mesh from waist to floor) so went with a g-string pinned to the skirt.

Re: Invisible super-undies??
Thank you so much EliAnn for asking this question...
I've often been wondering about that theme seeing geOoOOorgeous costumes with amaaaaaaaaaazing cut outs on the hips that seemed to impede wearing underwears without screwing up the costume

Re: Invisible super-undies??
I've seen costumes with sideless built ins, like connected front and back panels attached to the insides of the skirt. You could make them to snap in place so they could be removed for washing.

industrial strength G-strings?
pls tell us more.
(on a side note, between industrial strength g-strings and nuclear-proof nail polish, it's not bellydance, it's gladiator combat... LOL Love it!)

I can't find a still at the moment, but I've always liked the idea of a jeweled/sequined string bikini like Jillina sometimes wears. You can see it with the blue Pharaonics dress in this clip -- but don't look so hard for her sparkly undies that you miss her beautiful, soulful dancing. This is one of my favorite songs.

Re: Invisible super-undies??
Another option is lining the cutout with flesh coloured fabric and then wearing undergarments which match the skirt.
Oh, and I have two costumes with mesh down the side. I wear flesh coloured boy shorts or underwear with the elastic removed from the leg to eliminate the line.

Re: Invisible super-undies??
"G" string...1" wide non roll elastic. "cup" "basket" whatever it is called....made of stretchy flesh colored swin suit fabric.looks like an industrial thong. inside the front and back of my belts, is a 4 " piece of ribbon sewn in to pin belt to skirt bands and "G" string....with a huge 3" steel safety pin.

Re: Invisible super-undies??
I second the "industrial" quality fabrics! I use low-rise sturdy swimsuit bottoms to pin circle skirts to and get them a size too small so they never move, In real life I go commando, so the tightness of the bikinis has become my ready to perform cue. ..l;,
As far as no-slit lycra skirts go, leave it to beaver!

Re: Invisible super-undies??
I don't tend to wear cutouts as much as high-slit skirts that could show a lot during a spin. For that I choose dance trunks that match my costume. I have a pair of gold sparkly lycra booty-shorts that get a lot of wear, and a few in other colors as well.
When I (briefly) had a red mesh naked-dress, I went for red boyshorts under it and loved the look.
Nude boyshorts under cutouts makes a lot of sense to me.

Re: Invisible super-undies??
I use the Barely There brand too! Those are my favs.
I wear a lot of high slit skirts too, and I still like nude shorts. Do people really spend time wondering about our underwear? I've seen dancers show lots of leg, but I've never sat in fear that I might see more and I've never assumed an absence of underwear b/c of no visual confirmation of underwear. Is that just me?
Actually come to think of it, I don't care who wears underwear, as long as I don't see more than I was supposed to. ..l;,

Re: Invisible super-undies??
I'm afraid so. I've seen non-pro shows in my neck of the woods where the mere implication of a costume malfunction caused an audible intake of breath by the audience. There was a young dancer with a skirt cut up to nearly the hip who had people really worried because she kept doing these straight legged kicks backward.... and she was on a raised stage... but it became obvious she had a string bikini sort of thing on and people finally relaxed.
