Treatment for Pitted Chicken-Pox Scars?
Hello everyone! ;)
I have searched the forum archives for hints and recommendations on this, and I'm not having much luck, so I thought I would ask - has anyone had any success with an over-the-counter product (such as Mederma) for fading and smoothing pitted scars? Mine aren't from acne, but are reeeeeeally old scars, from a childhood bout of chicken pox.
Normally they don't bother me, but considering my scars are on my face (oh joy) and I'm starting to perform regularly, I'd like to have as even an appearance as possible.
Thanks in advance! :)

Hi Hilary,
honestly I would give it a try.
I have treated old scars (which looked more like dark spots) with Contractubex, that's from the same company, maybe it's even the same product but the german name.
And it actually worked. You can still see them, but they faded a lot.
Good luck!!Last edited by LindaBintFarah; 09-22-2010 at 06:53 AM.

If it is within your means, schedule a consultation with a doctor to discuss your concerns. There is no point to glomming all sorts of ointments that may not work onto your face, if someone with expertise could evaluate you and recommend a specific treatment with a better chance of working. Maybe an OTC scar minimizer isn't the right chemical for the job, and you need to have some sort of peel or dermabrasion to reduce the appearance of your scars--sometimes this can be accomplished with OTC or at-home prescription treatments. I don't know, but a dermatologist or plastic surgeon who specializes in skin resurfacing would.

Mederma never worked on my old chicken pox scars. I've got a bunch of deep pitted ones on my face... fortunately they are mostly on a part of the forehead that is covered by hair. I also have a ton of raised little white spots from the chicken pox on my tummy. With repeated natural tannings over the years, they have blended in with my skin for the most part.

Do these OTC products work for acne scars as well?

Retin-A can trigger rosacea, but I feel that it helped fill in some old acne pitting on my face. Check with a dermatologist to see if s/he recommends this off-label use.
Dermatologist visits and prescriptions are expensive, of course.,f::
