need ideas for funky accessories
i tend to play with my hair a lot and use it as a 'prop' (tee hee) so i can't do headbands or any cute hair accessories, and my frigging arm bands keep sliding down (i guess i just have to tighten the elastic for those then). but i want to wear some accessory that works and doesn't fall off, but isn't a distraction either..either in my hair, as arm bands, or whatever
i'm wanting to try and make those strappy arm bands and leg bands Bella has in her costumes, but I don't really show off a lot of leg so so the leg bands might not be that effective..

I've successfully used eyelash glue to hold up armbands.
You could wear really big necklaces and bracelets.
What about a thin lightweight headband with coins or short fringe that dangles onto the forehead, one of those those might stay in place during your head tosses. Secure with bobby pins behind your ears.

I love doing hair tosses & playing with my hair too, & you can use hair bands if you put an X of bobby pins on either side- occasionally add a couple at the back of the neck as well, but you'd be surprised at how well those 2 Xs stay put! barettes & single hair flowers, not so much...
the laces, in my experience, are even harder to keep in place- it can be done, but it wasn't so flattering on me. I second the eyelash glue, or sock glue (used to keep stockings from rolling down) to keep just about anything up. If have serious sweat issues, you can pick up some liquid latex- I think it's pretty much the same stuff, just a little stronger & you should be able to find it at the lingerie store.

I like my hair down- but it always curls towards my face for a Cousin It effect, which is rather undesirable. I also like the top of my hair pulled back firmly when I do sword.
Hair bands/head bands almost always slide off on me (or start to and get distracting). I think it's something to do with the shape of ones head. I've tried the X with bobby pins, to no avail.
I LOVE a single flower though. I secure it extra with a bobby pin or two and it stays really well. This might be better for hair that's not silky smooth texture, though.
I also pull back part of my hair and secure with elastic (you can use the small silicone kind so it's invisible)- then decorate with small rhinestone clips or barrettes.
Maybe try a google image search or two "long hair accessories wedding", "long hair accessories prom" and also take a peek on Etsy. For more alternative ideas search Steampunk etc. :)

Double sticky tape (like they use for paper crafts) has worked wonders on keeping my arm bands/waist straps in place. I don't perspire profusely so can't speak to how well that would hold up through that. I think dress tape is a similar concept.

I was going to second sock glue as well. I keep meaning to get some for my dance briefs that I wear under my kilt for Highland dance (they're the boy-leg variety, but the legs keep riding up so they look more like regular briefs. That's not all bad as they still achieve their purpose of doing what I feel is a better job of covering the essentials, but I'd still like the legs to stay down...). Where does one GET sock glue? Dance or theatrical store? Lingerie store?
