From Inspiration to Reality
I know many of you design your own costumes and I thought it might be fun to see what the idea looked like compared to the execution.
So do you have a drawing that you then made, or a drawing that you sent to another designer to have made? I'd love to see them side by side.
I know I have some, I'll go find a couple to share.
:-)

What a great idea! :) I sketch costume designs constantly. I'll see if I have any idea to reality pics to share.

Those are gorgeous Shems!
I have a bunch that I could share, but I don't think any of the sketches are currently digital. I'll see if I can find the originals and get my scanner to cooperate.

Re: From Inspiration to Reality
Here are some that I have worked on: Designs/Plans - a set on Flickr
This includes some that I sketched and made myself, sketches of troupe costumes based on vendor items, and a costume I put together to recreate an old painting. I tried to add in pictures of the ones I could find that had been triggered by the sketches. :) In some cases, a single sketch became 2 or 3 different costumes. I have tons more, but these are the only ones I had close by.

I use historical pictures a lot of the time for inspiration.

Great thread idea, Shems!
Here are mine. I can't draw, so I use Photoshop. ;)

Mahsati: Wow! Fantastic work.
Shems: That first skirt looks like it has incredible movement to it. What a clever design. What shape are the ruffled panels?
I've only made one costume so far, but the part I sketched (the skirt) did turn out very much like I imagined it.
The sketch:

I drew it with the costume's belt, not pictured in the first photo below. For the front, I decided to go with the design on the top right. For the back, I went with the design on the lower left.
Skirt front:
