How to make a lycra straight skirt/w slit?

I am on an endevour to make my first Bedlah and skirt. The problem is I'm not sure how to go about making the Egyptian style straight skirt with the slit over the left leg. The one I have is 1 piece in back, 2 in front (seam down middle) and a slit up the left leg. Confusing to me since shouldn't the seam be on the slit, so as not to leave a very apparant opening. I would like it to have a neat close, but not sure how many pieces to cut..Any ideas??

that's exactly how you do it. seam is in the same place as the slit.

so should it be two pieces. one starting on the right side hip, across the back to the left leg slit. and one small piece from the left leg slit to the right side hip? Thank you..

If you want something slightly more fitted do this: Back in two pieces, seam up the center. Front in three pieces, center piece about 40% of the whole, and the slit going up which ever seam you choose.

Or, if you want to cheat like I did, you measure your hips, and length, cut your fabric, make one seam to where you want the slit. Then place seams in the sides which will help keep the skirt in place.

And if you are using Lycra or stretch velvet, you can make it a little tight.

Thank you--think I try the 1 seam method--easier is always a good choice for me
