Bra fitting issues
Hi!
Just got 2 lovely costumes, one of the bras is a very good fit (only need to be a little tighter "underbust"), the other is a completely different shape. I feel like its"flattening" my boobs, and I have no idea how to adjust it.
Both are custom made for me, but different types of bras.
Tho one that Im struggeling a littlebit with, is a cutout bra with halter strap.
I thought about making it into "backstraps", but the straps are way too short.
Is there a way to extend the straps?
I feel like my boobs doesnt reach "into" the whole bra, but I dont feel like the bra is too small either..
Does anyone have an idea how I can make it fit better?
Btw, the costume is amazing, so no way Im selling it to get another bra! :D

Re: Bra fitting issues
Hi!
The only idea I have is to move the straps as far to the outside of the bra as possible. This should help a little bit.
Maybe, you could also shorten the straps to lift the whole thing up a little bit to give you the feeling of filling the bra a little more than before.
Best regards, Sahira.

Re: Bra fitting issues
I second moving the straps out. However, I wouldn't shorten the straps, because it looks like you are already overflowing a bit.

Re: Bra fitting issues
I think sometimes when the top of the bra seems to flatten you out, it would be worth trying to bring the bra up a bit - moving the ribcage part higher on the body up and maybe trying to fasten the straps a bit shorter as well. Did you ask the designer for her fitting advice?

Re: Bra fitting issues
I second carpediem. The bra looks a bit too high up and I think you'll get a better and less "flattening" fit if you move the shoulder straps up and adjust the hooks on the ribcage strap so that it sits higher around your body.

Re: Bra fitting issues
I already feel like the straps are too far out to the sides. almost so its limiting my movements. I cant tighten the halter more, already feel like its too short :D But although it looks like my boobs are coming out of the bra, they dont even fill it out! :D
Have no ide how to explain it..
I feel like Ive bothered the designer way too much already, but I guess I could write her one more email :D
Would it be possible to move the cups, and re attach the middle piece, so that the cups looks more like a regular bra?
Sorry for the bad explaining...
:D

Re: Bra fitting issues
Could be if it's not one piece but three: middle-piece and the two bra cups.Would it be possible to move the cups, and re attach the middle piece, so that the cups looks more like a regular bra?
If it is like that, it would be the easiest way to make your bra fit better. Do you have any closeups of that area?
Love, Sahira.
BTW: The bra looks absolutely lovely. Would love to see the whole costume. Who is the designer?

Re: Bra fitting issues
but if I twist the cups, wouldnt I also have to move the side straps? :O That would be way to hard for me..

Re: Bra fitting issues
I had a top that fit like that. (It fit well at first, and then a weight change caused it to look like it was cutting into my chest and it was quite unflattering.) I had to take the whole thing apart to get the cups to tilt. I ended up making a new middle piece because to get it to fit right after putting the cups at an angle.

Re: Bra fitting issues
Start with removing the padding. Then add back in as needed. At the moment, the photos of you wearing the bra looks as if the bra is too small.

Re: Bra fitting issues
Hm.. I can try.. but then I think it will be too big.. The cups are kinda too wide. Is there another way I could put the padding?

Re: Bra fitting issues
I removed the padding :D (took a while, I was crazy afraid to cut into the mesh :D)
Still flat as a pancake, only no "oozing" out of the cup.
If I remove the longest piece between the cups, would it be sturdy enough to handle a shimmy? :D
And would the side straps still be in place?
Im so scared to mess with it :D
Sending it back to egypt wouldnt probably help, cause Im not there to have it fitted :D
I wish there were seamstresses where I live :/
Couldt a seamstress make it fit me?
As I said, no way Im selling this costume..

Re: Bra fitting issues
Hi!
I would take it apart and put it together again with a nice rotation of the cups. But I would definitely sew in the lower strap of the middle part, again. Otherwise, I'm not sure if it would stand a solid shimmy... *g*
If you are too scared to mess it: Why not sending it to Eshta and ask her for making it fit perfectly for you?
Love, Sahira.

This is a photo of all the work I had to do to my costume to get it to fit better and get it stop doing the smooshed up chest look.

Re: Bra fitting issues
That's a beautiful bra! The straps in front do look too far out to the side, that's where I have to wear mine, because I'm top heavy, you are not, and you do not need them out that far. I think you're right on the money about not feeling like your filling it, because your not. It looks too big, like it's dwarfing your boobs, and you're trying to compensate by just ratcheting everything tighter, which is causing the top of the cup to look like they are cutting into your boobs. If you are not comfortable taking this apart yourself than bring it to a seamstress, preferably one with some costume experience, and have them adjust the angle of the cups for you and shift those straps.

Re: Bra fitting issues
The lower strap is exactly where it is supposed to be. It may or may not be the wrong length. If it is smooshing you still, chances are it's the upper strap. I have had bras which have had the cups stitched together. Unstitch and Voila! Instant boobage!
Maybe Ozma will speak up here.

Re: Bra fitting issues
Ok I know what the problem is. The shape of the bra is not correct for your bust type.
It is a straight across football shape. But you need a bra with a plunge shape. Angles going from the top of the cup under the arm to the center. Like the bella bras - like street bras. This bra you have now is more of a demi style. And no amount of padding is going to give you the push up angled look unless you change the angle of the cups. Sometimes this can be done depending on how it's constructed but most of the time not. Based on the photo you could do surgery to fix this. Some people like this type of bra. It's really personal preference. I been asking so many questions about my client's boobs and getting some pics of people in their favorite bras ( always private of course but very very helpful ) so I have gotten really good at recognizing the 3 different bra shapes and matching them with the correct bosom type.

Re: Bra fitting issues
In no other costuming category do we discuss our bosoms so much and at such length!
Eshta, you bring up an excellent point, or three, rather. What are the three major bra types? Examples? Should we start a new thread?

Re: Bra fitting issues
Yes, Eshta, you are totally right! :D
The other bra is more like the shape I need.
The bras that look best on me, are almost teardrop shaped.
But diagonal, if you know what I mean?
I was actually looking at different designer "brands" today, and descided that I would try out a Bella the next time! :D
The pharaonics bras are not the best bras on me either :/
I will try to find a seamstress that can help me, but there really are very few of them here. And the few seamstresses in my area, only hem pants etc for the shopping mall stores. (they are hired by the malls).
And they are very expensive, so maybe I should just send my street bra to egypt, and have them make me another one.
It will be an expensive bra, with shipping, payment fees, and such, but I really dont wanna give up this costume!
But are costume bras really ment to be comfy? None of mine really are :D Nothing like a street bra :D And the halter straps are killing me!

Re: Bra fitting issues
and also, I tend to see in pics of dancers, that the strap arond their back is kinda loose? Is it not supposed to be very tight?
What about the shimmies?
To have them tight kinda limits my chest movements, but I would hate to do a peekaboo trick.. :p
Thank you all, for posting!

Re: Bra fitting issues
General rule is that the chest bands should be tight enough that taking a deep breath is hard. Unless there is elastic in the band. And even then is should be snug.
