Thread: Best place to get an Assuit dress

I love the rich look of the assuit on Dahlal's website, but the price!

I'm talking about the Iconic Assuit and Assuit Affair. Can't quite afford that...

So what's the best alternative? Other assuit seems to be a little bit sparse on the decoration. What's a good vendor? Any recommendations? Here's what I've found so far:

I think the closest to get to the Dahlal pieces that is affordable is to buy new Egyptian shawls like they have on Ebay and go from there but they aren't the same. They do look pretty good though - but still....plus I personally don't want to cut up or damage my old ones...

But - you can order new assuit that looks very nice from Safticraft:

Egyptian belly dance costumes, Egyptian hip scarves,belly dancing hip scarves-Egypt

I haven't seen it in person so don't know what it's really like. But it looks good!!!

I guess how much it would cost would depend on the design - how much you'd need to make the outfit. Still, might be affordable.

So if anybody has any more ideas, I too would love to hear them...g.:

I don't mind if it's new, but unfortunately, I can't sew a stitch, so I wouldn't be able to make my own.

Well, there are very talented seamstresses/tailors around who are quite reasonable.

If you could get the fabric and take a sketch or photo, I'll bet you could get a gorgeous costume for an affordable price.

The local drycleaners around here have people who, for example, replaced the entire lining of my wool coat for $30.00.

I'll bet for $75.00 - $100.00 you could get a whole costume made, of course this would be on top of the fabric.

So figure maybe, including assuit and underskirt/veil fabric, $250 - $300 fabric & a bra plus say $75 for a tailor - maybe you'd have a world-class costume made to your measurements.

You could probably do it for less - the nice shawls on Ebay are about $40 plus shipping from Egypt so I think you'd only need two, max three depending on your size and the design. Plus you'd need between 6 and ten yards of chiffon depending on the design, your height and if you want a veil, so forth.

Of course if you could learn to do handwork you could add beads, coins etc and make it really stunning but even that kind of work you can have done, people need $ right now.

One time I was broke and beaded a dress for $90 for a local designer.

I bought a gorgeous piece of new assuit this summer from the vendor "nileart". He currently has 16 pieces of assuit, but no dresses (just shawls and a triangular piece). But at least I can recommend him as being very prompt, if you want to just buy the stuff yourself and have it made up!
