How to fix Wired Hems (fish line)
Hi, I have some skirts with "wired" hems. How do you keep the, it looks like fish line, from poking out? I love the look of these hems but it seems to be a problem with Bellas to no name skirts. Thanks

Oh, I'm so glad you asked this, Yolanda, as I have been wondering the same thing. I have a skirt where the fish line (which is in the hem on the side slits) is even poking out at top of the skirt through the casing holding the elastic and irritates my skin. ,f:: Since it has poked through the fabric (creating a tiny hole), I'm not sure there's anything I can do. Hopefully one of the talented members here can help us.

Have you tried using a drop of glue on the ends? If you look for a clear, flexible glue that will work on both fabrics and plastics, this should address the problem. Maybe something like E6000?

Re: How to fix Wired Hems (fish line)
Thanks, Tourbeau. I'll pick up some E6000 tomorrow and see what happens. What have I got to lose? Do I try to push the exposed fishing line ends back down below the hole in the fabric--and then use the glue on the fabric to keep the line from poking back through? Sorry to be so dense but I haven't worked with E6000 before (although I've seen the references to using it on this sub-forum).

I don't think there is one right way to do it. Depending on where the hole is and how much kink the piece of line sticking out has, you could press the line down on top of the fabric and glue there (preferably on the inside of the hem), or if the hole is set back a bit, you could make another hole and poke it back in (leaving the line looking a bit like an exposed staple) and then drop glue on top of that spot. The idea is to get a place where you have glue and fabric and line all in stable contact with each other. If it's a huge hole, I guess you could even pull the line out and put the glue just on the tip to make a smooth, round ball and work it back in. Whatever gets the job done and isn't a visible, gluey mess, you know?

Thanks again, Tourbeau. I didn't end up getting the glue today but I'm ready to try once I do. Luckily in my case, the problem is in the elastic hip-band casing, so at least it will be hidden by a belt, even if I do make more of a gluey mess than is desired.
